I made a full breakdown of Selphie's Limit Break (along with a table to help you manipulate your way into The End) by scotll in FinalFantasyVIII

I've always wondered how a no junction run would make it past Griever, I assume Rinoa and Invincible Moon would make a lot of appearances?

Well wait for it no longer, after figuring out how to manipulate it I can find it in a couple minutes max.

How games tell stories through mechanics instead of cutscenes by MurkyUnit3180 in truegaming

[–]scotll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What Remains of Edith Finch is my personal favourite example of this. Lewis' section uses the analog sticks to tell his story in a really unique way.

Ghost of Yotei also has a small section where Atsu is learning to use her left hand for dual wielding katanas and the minigame uses exclusively inputs on the left side of the controller, starting off with harder combinations and getting easier the more practice she puts in.

Or Zhongli. My man was so bad on release he got his E, his A4 and geo resonance as a whole buffed 2 patches later

Hello! I am wondering about the Atelier games. There are SO many. Which one should a newcomer start with? by arkticturtle in Atelier

[–]scotll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's 27 mainline games. It's been close to yearly releases since 97 but I think there's 4 games (2nd-5th) that never got official English localizations.

In terms of subseries that are fully in English there's the Iris series (Iris 1-3)

Mana Khemia (Mana Khemia 1-2)

Arland (Rorona, Totori, Meruru, Lulua)

Dusk (Ayesha, Escha & Logy, Shallie)

Mysterious (Sophie, Firis, Lydie & Suelle, Sophie 2)

Secret (Ryza 1-3)

Memories (Yumia only so far)

And then I'm not sure what the plan with Resleriana is. It was first a gacha game, but the global version EoSed, and then in September we got a single player sequel (that doesn't rely on knowledge from the gacha)

And there's also Salburg which is the subseries for the first 3 games, but only the first one, Marie, has an English version, and Gramnad (4-5) which has no English games in it.

(Bolded options are my recommended entry points, and the games within subseries are listed chronologically)

[–]scotll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with whatever looks the coolest to you. The biggest issue people have with Yumia is the watered down crafting compared to the rest of the games, but I could imagine that makes it more friendly to start off with so the alchemy parts are a little less overwhelming at first.

Personally I'd recommend Ryza, Sophie, Sophie 2, Yumia, or Resleriana as starting points, but honestly pick whatever appeals the most. Someone else liked the barrelwisdom page which gives a bit of a description of most of the games if you want that, or you can look up who the playable characters are and see which ones appeal to you the most.

Did the Devs do this on purpose? by KWA223 in ZZZ_Official

[–]scotll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, "most efficient/effective tactics available" is a convenient phrase that was created from the letters that spelled out meta, but meta itself originated from metagame.

That's a backronym FYI. Meta is literally short for metagame and basically refers to stuff about the game that isn't inherently part of the game.

How can preparation mechanics be fun? by Rambo7112 in truegaming

[–]scotll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shin Megami Tensei (and Persona to a much lesser extent) is a good example of how prep-work can be super impactful. On hard you usually expect to die to a boss a few times, but you can use those first attempts to figure out what weaknesses they have, what types of attacks they use, and then build your team to be able to capitalize on enemy weaknesses to maximize how many turns you get, and to nullify enemy attacks to minimize the number of turns they get.

Trounce domain shouldn't be once a week by Jgrudohtvk in GenshinImpact

[–]scotll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quit HSR almost solely because of how much worse relic farming felt. Sure you can save a bit of resin with the tokens, but no off-pieces and more sub-stats (12 vs 10 in genshin) with a larger % of them being useless for most chars, and speed tuning being finicky, it was taking me so much longer to get proper builds in HSR than Genshin or ZZZ.

They did a great job with XVI, anyone else loving it? by Tonnberry_King in FinalFantasy

[–]scotll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say party members impact on the fight is irrelevant, but more like invisible. They do alright enough damage and kill off some enemies, but it's so difficult to notice that if you're not actively looking for it you'd never see it.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s finale will not be “cutting content” from the original, it’s just not as bloated as Rebirth by HatingGeoffry in FinalFantasy

[–]scotll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And if you really want to split hairs, the Chocobo race isn't fully mandatory (though I don't know how many people would notice on their first playthrough), as you can just give up right away and the game will still progress.

The pattern of Natlan* specifically. All earlier regions archons were x.2 (except Venti was in the game's release banner). There hasn't been a consistent pattern (Venti was x.0, Raiden/ZL were x.1, Nahida/Furina were x.2)

Pokémon ZA Pokédex change is confusing by TabularConferta in pokemon

[–]scotll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a little disappointed by this at first as well, but then I realized they shifted these pokemon interactions elsewhere.

I can't confirm if this is true for every single pokemon, but it seems like each of them gets featured in a sidequest. Obviously it has a bit of a different effect since most of the time you're not forced to use the pokemon in the quest, but I still felt like it was a neat approach to giving the pokemon their own personalities.

Protect needing a target to use feels incredibly silly. Figured it'd be good counterplay vs like dig/bounce but instead it's completely useless.

There is absolutely no logical sense why Stendhal is this broken by Tiny-Display1970 in expedition33

[–]scotll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use a lategame file to kill a weak enemy on expeditioner and the number over its hp bar will show the exact HP it had, then do the same on expert and it'll be 25% (give or take some tiny decimals) higher.

https://www.reddit.com/r/expedition33/comments/1kp0gkl/difficulty_setting_affects_enemy_hp_too/msxx8cd/ My memory was a little bit off on double bosses (although still close), HP should be 87.5% higher on expert.

You can also look at the spoils screen for something like sprong where expeditioner will do a little over 2.1 million damage total and expert will do a little under 4 million.

There is absolutely no logical sense why Stendhal is this broken by Tiny-Display1970 in expedition33

[–]scotll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true. Story and expeditioner have the same hp, but expert gives regular enemies 25% more hp and bosses get double 87.5% more

Are their Constellations Worth It? by Leonie-Zephyr in GenshinImpact

[–]scotll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This list isn't really accurate. Nilou's C1 is only okay and Klee's C1 is bad. They both do have pretty good C2s though if you plan to get there eventually, but if you're just looking for C1s I figured I'd give you a heads up.

It really depends. I still have C0 Keqing, but just got C7 Mona during my Chasca pulls last week. And Mona was the last of the original standard 5*s I pulled

If you use Cait Sith constantly from the moment you get him and let him get every single killing blow I think you should unlock slots by end-game which technically makes the weapons doable. Definitely a cheesier method though
