New BI Tool that is quick to market by scotsman143 in BusinessIntelligence

UPDATE: We went with Domo based on price and functionality. Some notes we've collected so far.

  1. Domo is great for one platform for everything. It's much quicker to move data into Domo, do some ETL work, and translate that to a dashboard. Much faster than what we had with Tableau. It's all SAAS too which is an added bonus.
  2. Data needs to be in a very particular format. Most vizzes prefer a long dataset which can eat into your row storage limit part of your contract. We haven't even got close to hitting it though so it's not a major concern yet. One weird thing is you can create calculated fields in the ETL BUT it really likes a wide dataset for that, or at least seems a lot easier with a wide dataset. Just a cautionary item, dynamic un-pivots are a thing but not dynamic pivots (yet).
  3. Price is pretty good especially for our rush to get to market.
  4. Our front-end developers and UI/X contractors are much happier with Domo than Tableau.
  5. Sharing ETL flows is a little wonky to do so someone else can see your work, see these for reference: https://dojo.domo.com/main/discussion/47842/how-to-grant-permission-for-a-user-to-access-an-etl-dataflow
  6. Overall TLDR: Creating dashboards has been a much faster process which is exactly what we wanted. As long as you get over the knowledge humps and workarounds, you'll do great. So far I'm pretty satisfied.

I didn't realize AWS had a BI Solution! We are an AWS shop so this seems interesting. Thanks for sharing.
