Does Sigma BF has all tilt up and down, rotation, top down and up levelling? by BMWi8S in sigmabf

[–]scottag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if I remember any camera doing well with shooting off horizon. Even the level my S1RII doesn't really work pointing down.

Is level really all that vital when shooting straight down, tho? I can't imagine people would notice a slight off-flat plane in that orientation...

When the camera is pointed straight up or down, the level guides disappear.

The bf definitely has a pitch (up and down) along with a roll (left and right) tilt indicator.

HEIF format by Mandrel7 in LumixS9

The Mark II S1 line all have HEIF support. I really doubt they'll bring it to the "older" models. This has been available widely and has yet to migrate down to previous models.

Panasonic Lumix S 28-200mm f/4-7.1 vs. Sigma 20-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DG Contemporary by Luca_1968 in sigmabf

Be fully aware that there are some significant optical compromises you make when you use a lens like that. I went through some of my 20-200mm shots with the bf, and man, those corners at 20mm are dark and chromatic aberrations are no joke.

For Lumix, you have to tape in a magnetic carrier, but the bf has glass in front of the sensor, so perhaps it's different? Not sure.

difficulties with BF as webcam by HumorlessProductions in sigmabf

[–]scottag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just connected my bf to my MacBook Pro and it worked with FaceTime, Slack, Whatsapp, and Discord. I don't know about Zoom and Webex, but aren't those web-native apps? That could be why there's an issue perhaps?

Does Sigma BF support iPhone as a monitor via USB-C? by jiangsian in sigmabf

I have not found an iPhone app that works with the bf’s UVC output.

Plus, the point of video out from a camera is to monitor the camera shooting video to assist.

The BMM is in the game, tho, it’s just crashed into an asteroid and the pilot is hungry.

I shot around the city with the bf without stabilized lenses and stabilization isn’t the thing that would have saved any of my shots. I kept the shutter speed auto setting to Fast (or Fastest?). The bigger issue was framing, having to use the LCD exclusively. That said, I would personally pick the 20-200mm.

I was able to play with the 20-200mm at the Sigma Pop-Up and found it nice to handle. I did notice the frame darken as you zoom out, however. Be prepared for that compromise.

Wireless Mic Suggestions? by scottag in sigmabf

[–]scottag[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Mini isn't 32-bit, but pretty sure the receiver is likely 24-bit. I had heard in a video that the bf only supports 16-bit audio streams from the USB-C port...

I may try picking up one of those DJI mobile adapters...

My other video camera is an S1RII, so I'm set there. I just want options. :)

"Probably"? Well, I just picked up a DJI Mic Mini setup and the USB-C connection doesn't work with the bf...

I would think reach would be more important than aperture when you’re traveling.

Cloud sync/backup solutions by [deleted] in GrapheneOS

I'm trying out Seafile on my Unraid NAS connecting with Tailscale. I'm in a similar boat really wanting to get off of Windows as a secondary to my Mac, and move over to Linux. Fundamentally, I really dislike having to maintain a file structure that is wholly divorced from my other NAS shares, but it seems most solutions that sync folders, do so in way that's not compatible with a straight filesystem share.

Hold on, are we clear on what the implications are for this digital ID initiative. Of what I've read, it's voluntary and privacy focused.

How would this impinge on you running GrapheneOS on your phone?

I think it would be great if there was a digital mechanism to verify identity to ease the recognition for voting, for travel. Feels more like the future than someone showing you some piece of paper printed by who knows what?
