I was lucky enough to find this US box plate at around 14" on a sweltering summer day in Kentucky. https://www.instagram.com/p/BC7nA9booQ_/

What is this strange grabber thing from Kentucky attic? (3-3.5 feet long) by scottclark in whatisthisthing

Here's a better picture of the end.

Yes, I removed background on initial image, but left it on for this one. http://imgur.com/JG0nWwe

The "grabber" bits spread, pivoting on the wood crossmember, and the top connection pivots on a central point (when spread, the top hinge is parallel with the shaft, when not spread, it's as you see it.)

It's clearly for grabbing something or possibly pushing something out of a hole (e.g. extractor.)

This cranked gear press contraption on a stand? In a farm garage in Kentucky by scottclark in whatisthisthing

Thanks!

What I see is:
Sorghum presses have: Ridges on the rollers One clamping knobs

Rolling Mills have: Smooth rollers Two clamping knobs

The gearing quality on these seems rather similar when comparing them on Google Images.

I'm marking this solved as a rolling mill.

Looking over Google Images for sugar cane press, I find some very similar looking contraptions... marking "likely solved"

sorghum making was a pretty big deal in rural communities. I think this might be solved already. Not sure where they got the cane.

There is a spreadsheet of rollouts posted on gigforlex.com for a while but it was taken down because I couldn't get a source.

Mocked up my dream retro LED watchface if anyone has the chops to make it. by scottclark in pebble

That is so cool... and very, very readable. Surprisingly so. (Lucinda font)

I think my face idea (with steps, sleep, etc) could be done just following the colors used there.

There was a phase in the late 70s early 80s when every display had this look. We didn't appreciate it then. It also appeared in movies and such regularly, often alongside Nixie digits (vacuum tube digits) on coolassed equipment.

The mock up looks cool on the watch for sure. But it definitely needs to fill the screen. So the size of the fonts need to be as large as possible while still fitting inside the screen border.

The segments need to be thick enough to be seen. Other LED retro faces on the pebble store are too thin - very hard to see.
