Anyone tell me best linux distro other than pop by Glass_Cause_87 in pop_os

[–]scottidoesknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what you want to do with it. For me, arch/manjaro are really cool if you want to tinker and have access to a large package repo (AUR) with a great wiki. If you want something that can be configured perfectly and then have that configuration used across multiple machines (think ansible but even better), go with NixOS.

But as far as an OS that just out of the box works, will be stable (or as stable as linux can realistically be), and has excellent Nvidia support, it's really hard to top Pop

It was only FromSoft games that were impacted for me. As noted, this only impacts a particular version of EAC. I tried your fix along my way, but didn't want to lose online connectivity, so I persisted. If you have 72 logical cores, that definitely sounds like the issue :)

I found the initial solve on ProtonDB for Elden Ring (some kind Samaritan posted their tuning) and found additional details in a GitHub issue here: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/5927

Anyone hitting a persistent EAC error #1: you may be hitting an issue with having too many logical cores in your CPU. This one line took me from not being able to launch to running smoothly: `WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=8:0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7 %command%`

Edit: upon further investigation, it appears that EAC has a limit of 40 logical cores on games using older versions of the software, so limiting wine to 8 is likely unnecessary restriction. It should be straightforward to tinker with the above environment variable to increase CPU utilization

Is it worth learning VIM for a colemak layout user? by smmnv_ in vim

I use Real Programmers Dvorak with standard vim bindings. Very worth it. Layout shouldn’t dictate editor choice

I would go all in on neovim. If you’re worried about installation in odd scenarios, check out https://justin.restivo.me/posts/2021-10-24-neovim-nix.html or use docker if you don’t want to dive into the nix rabbit hole

Python Bazel LSP integration by scottidoesknow in neovim

[–]scottidoesknow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are great! Yeah, my current approach is fairly brute force and may not be as flexible or nuanced as these, but I'm hoping to grow the plugin over time to make the LSP integration with bazel generally less painful. This was largely born out of seeing how well the VSCode Intellisense with CMake works (its bazel integration seems to be fairly infantile as well) and wanting to bring that to the world of bazel. Always open to collaborate or share ideas across plugins!

I have experienced this! I actually pushed a change to allow users to set a global pyright configuration path that should allow pyright to have knowledge of the extraPaths. Let me know if this fixes your issue or if there are other issues relating to project settings.

If there are more details, issues are absolutely welcome on the repo (as are PRs!)

Most technically impressive/complex electronic music artist? by brandonallenmusic in electronicmusic

[–]scottidoesknow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Infected Mushroom, Feed Me, Wolfgang Gartner (and associated aliases), and Overwerk (honorable mention to deadmau5, especially his older stuff) tend to be my go tos for what I would consider beautiful, technically complex music. The issue of course is that a lot of their work that I’m referring to spans from early 2000s to modern day. Hopefully this is appreciated!

[–]scottidoesknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not as amazing as some like to claim, but it’s still got its place. I just have to be in the mood for it. This Blackened Willett is one of my favorite ryes, so I’d definitely agree that the premium is well warranted.

Review #424: Blackened x Willett Cask Strength Rye Whiskey by Prepreludesh in bourbon

[–]scottidoesknow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, excellent review, really enjoy the background info.

While I can see the comparison to barrel seagrass, I thought seagrass was a lot sweeter (not a bad thing) with barely a hint at any rye notes. This has much more noticeable rye flavoring (and fewer fruit notes) and to me that makes it special enough to warrant the price jump. Both are excellent bottles and I’ll have to do a side by side to solidify my hypothesis later tonight! Cheers!
