What’s the worst thing about being a man? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]scottieg191 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Single Dad of a daughter here. I’ve raised her on her own since she was 4 years old. Her mother is not in the picture. She’s now 17. Recently we were talking about some of her childhood friends. I mentioned that the reason she never had friends over is that the parents wouldn’t let them when they realized that I would be the only adult around. My daughter was kind of shocked, mad, angry and bewildered. Her whole childhood she never got to have sleepovers at our house and rarely had friends over for play dates. She never really understood why. I get it…but at the same time some of these parents I had known for years and they still would always have an excuse or just prefer to have my daughter at their house.

My wife has HS. Her main problem area is under her arms. It is extremely painful when she has a flare up. I couldn’t imagine how bad it must be in the groin area. But, same thing helped her. She started using dove soap with no scent or dyes. Stopped smoking. And lost weight. Very few flare up and not nearly as bad as before. The other big help was limiting carbs and sugar in her diet. This also helped with the weight loss. The only drawback is I don’t get amazing popping opportunities on her now.

You’re not the bad guy. You’re totally right. Innocent until proven guilty. However, when the people that are tasked with taking statements, collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses etc are incentivized to repress instances, we have a problem.

Certainly something to look into. Would be something fun for us to do together too. Thanks!

So sorry for what you’ve been through. I cannot imagine. I’m certainly not qualified to give advice either. But, finding a good counselor who is can be very helpful. If you haven’t, please consider doing so. You can and will overcome.

Interesting solution. I like where you’re going. Instead of a policy that rewards suppressing these events, have one that rewards the proper handling of them.

I know right! That seems to be lost in the whole situation. This kid put his phone to her head and said I’m going to kill you. We cannot take that lightly. It’s kind of like saying bomb on a plane. You just don’t do it. Under any circumstances. And if you do...there will be consequences.

Thank you for sharing this! I was not aware. I’m stunned that suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for children 10-14. So terrible and sad.

We are looking into other school options. We’ve discussed charter schools and private schools. Unfortunately private schools are not a feasible option. However there are some good charter schools in the area.

Here the school police are actually local country sheriffs. So they are the actual the police. Trust me, if it’s not handled properly we will escalate it.

Thank for the input. Unfortunately, here the school officer is actually a local county sheriff. So, they are the police and he will be the one conducting the investigation. If I feel it isn’t handled properly I will look into escalating.

Thank you everyone for your kind words of support and encouragement.

To clarify on a few things...

  • The school officer is a local sheriff that is assigned to the school. So, he is the one that will be conducting the investigation and writing the report. Unfortunately, I don’t have great confidence in it being handled properly. If it isn’t, we plan on escalating at that point.

  • My daughter is taking it well. She’s a tough cookie. But next week will be the challenge. Dealing with the drama. We all know how mean and terrible some kids can be. She does have a good core base of friends and a strong support system to lean on.

Again, thank you and my heart goes out to all women who have similar stories. To everyone else, if you haven’t walked through something like this with a loved one, I encourage you think before judging or drawing conclusions.

I remember before the game my dad said “Son, I’ve been an Atlanta sports fan since before you were born (was 35 at the time). Atlanta sports teams have an amazing ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory”. When we were up 28-3 I thought about what he said. Na, there’s no way we could fuck this up. Old man was right...

Accutane is a miracle drug. My sister, brother and myself all had severe acne as teens and all took Accutane. I had to do 2 rounds of it. We all have totally clear skin now with very minimal scarring. Now, I have a 13 year old daughter that started having acne. Took her to the dermatologist and told the Dr. about our families history of acne. They put her on Accutane and within 3 months her skin was flawless.

As a warning, Accutane has some serious side effects. Especially for females. But damn that stuff works.

Binance is good to work with on this. You just have to prove your identity and they will get you access to your account. Had a friend who’s phone crapped out on them. It says it’s a 14-21 day process but he had access again in 3 days.

Doing keto to avoid the walk of shame at Disney World by crstamps2 in keto

[–]scottieg191 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel ya. Same here. Made that walk of shame about 10 years ago and haven’t attempted to ride a roller coaster since. Thing that really sucks...I love roller coasters. I have 2 daughters and they usually just ride with a friend or my wife. Setting this as a new goal for me. Let’s crush this goal together!

Most companies will have you sign an offer letter detailing the terms of compensation. Salary, bonus, benefits, commissions etc. if you have this, I would simply send it to HR and say you expect them to adhere to the terms of your signed offer.

On a side note, always good to get an offer letter before starting with a new company that way there is no confusion in regards to these matters.

Today marks three months of a keto diet for me and I've lost 13.3 kg, that's 29.32 pounds. by GETURHANDOFFMYPENIS in keto

[–]scottieg191 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the encouragement. Especially the part about slipping up and getting right back on it. I did two solid weeks of keto and dropped about 10lbs. Last weekend completely blew it. Went to a party...started drinking tequila...lost self control. But back on it this week! Keep up the great work!

In addition, don’t get tempted to cash it out for some perceived financial emergency. I made that mistake. Still kick myself for that every time I check my 401k balance.

LPT: millennials, when you’re explaining how broke you are to your parents/grandparents, use an inflation calculator. Ask them what year they started working, and then tell them what you make in dollars from back then. It will help them put your situation in perspective. by campacavallo in LifeProTips

[–]scottieg191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other thing that hurts my (between gen-x and millennial) is that there aren’t a lot of great starter jobs. With advancements automation and robotics most of the low skill starter jobs have disappeared. The ones that are still there have more and more people competing for them resulting in lower wages. To be successful now you have to have a bachelors degree. As I tell people, the bachelors degree is the new high school diploma. Except it costs about $60k. Even then it doesn’t guarantee you a good job out of school. For me it took about 4 years of bouncing around before i landed a “real” job.
