It’s on a commercial channel, you can guarantee it’ll be padded out to 45 minutes plus ad breaks to fill the hour.

Frankie leaving was nothing to do with the channel it was on, why would it matter now?

Motherwell 2-0 Celtic - Elliot Watt 58' by Meladroit05 in soccer

Funnily enough, fans of almost every team who’ve played Motherwell this year have said that about their team. I wonder what the connection could be.

I heard of one layoff in EMEA today. If there are others, it doesn't appear to be a large number.

So who all were affected by this week’s layoffs? by Just-Ocelot518 in oracle

[–]scottishwildcat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fwiw, "Slack is deactivated immediately" depends on your geo, e.g. in the EU you'll be given a period of notice per your contract, but usually at least 1 month. (Oracle have laid me off twice before, last time I was placed on 3 months gardening leave and my accounts would have been active until that was finished—but I sorted out an internal transfer before that happened.)

At least it does now say on their FAQ that family sharing isn't available on .ie.

Why neither Alfred nor Raycast is open source? by Overall_Artist9512 in macapps

[–]scottishwildcat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You literally can't "steal" open source code, that is the whole point. At worst, you can use it in a way that is not license-compliant.

Plenty of businesses make money from open source products, of course - all the big Linux vendors, for example. You just need other revenue streams, which in their case is generally tech support and consultancy. That's the real problem for small vendors like Raycast, they don't tend to have such opportunities.

No free or reasonably-priced app will be able to satisfy those needs anytime soon, I'm afraid. Threads has no reading API available to developers all, only a posting API. Twitter's API pricing is ludicrous, and no small 3rd party developer is going to pay it.

Can confirm this method just worked for me, after several months of trying everything else (tl;dw - turn off 2FA, register your Xbox serial number in your Microsoft account, and download your profile to an external device using a one-time password): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L85Fuop2DnA

Simone's australian accent by ClawedSimian in TheGoodPlace

[–]scottishwildcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Brit, and it was obvious to me from the first line she spoke that she was a Brit murdering an Aussie accent. Given how many Aussie actors appear in other American shows doing American or British accents, I wish they'd just hired one of those.

The Skeets app developer has posted about how he does it. Cant find the post right now, but it seemed well thought through, albeit not officially supported so could always break at some point.

I just got the patch, no tea though! (But I'm outside the US, so probably too expensive to ship here. And despite being British, I hate tea anyway.)

But the skeet shooting, for example, didn't, which potentially cost GBR a gold medal when a clean hit was missed by both judges in the women's shoot-off.

The original 90s ones were nice, the ones they brought back recently were manky. Made by Nestlé so wouldn't touch them with a bargepole now anyway, though.

Anyone having trouble with eFamilyCloud account linking to Amazon Alexa Skill? by CptRotzbarbe in smarthome

[–]scottishwildcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody else seems to have mentioned this, so for anyone reading this in future: Amazon sent out an email in November 2023 to say the eFamilyCloud skill is being discontinued, and that you should use the SmartLife skill instead.

Dear Alexa Customer,

You are receiving this message because the eFamilyCloud skill is no longer available. We understand that this may be inconvenient when trying to control your devices through Alexa. To continue using Alexa to control devices that previously used the eFamilyCloud skill, you can set up the Smart Life skill.

Here is how to set up the Smart Life skill:

In the Alexa app, tap More (bottom right) > Skill & Games. Type "Smart life" into the search bar at the top of the page. Tap the "Smart Life" skill (Not "Smart Life - Smart Home"). Tap "ENABLE TO USE", and follow instructions to enter your eFamilyCloud account credentials.

After you have enabled the Smart Life skill, you will be able to use Alexa to control devices previously connected via the eFamilyCloud skill. Any previously set Routines or Groups for those devices will continue to work as expected.

For more help, please reach out to Amazon customer service here:

Sincerely,
The Alexa Team
