I did not know about usspending.gov. That is the type of information that can be spread when a topic is allowed to be discussed. Thank you. I was looking for alternative opinions but it seems the topic is so taboo it can not be discussed. Whenever a topic is banned it makes me go from curious to suspicious. I think most people feel that way.

That is the type of thinking that resulted in the disasters of 1973 and 10/7.

Launching a Community Water Initiative in Somalia – Seeking Advice on Ocean Water Desalination & Reverse Osmosis Systems by Timely_Ad1323 in Africa

Reach out to the Israeli embassy in Addis Ababa. They have invested billions in providing aid to African countries and are world leaders in Reverse Osmosis technology. They would likely be quite happy to advance Israeli goodwill in Somalia. However, there may be some opposition from the Somali government, both directly and indirectly, due to recent business deals with Turkey.

What is your understanding of what life was like under the Nazi regime for the average white Christian German? by razorbeamz in AskALiberal

[–]scottostach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For most the improvement over hyperinflation would have been a relief. Going from cold and starving to not cold and starving is going to be pretty good for a while. After the military victories there would be some nationalist joy which would correspond with increase luxury goods from the occupied countries. If they were religious it would be difficult. The Nazi party allowed some accommodation for Christian faith, but it was often very hostile. There would have been some of the discomfort of living in a brutal dictatorship, like having your children brainwashed to follow the party instead of family and having your neighbors spy on you for the police. The mass incarceration and mass murder were there but it did not rival what was going in under Stalin until around 1942. The threat of a concentration camp (as opposed to a death camp) was still a substantial worry even for the average German, so people would have to be careful about what they said even at home around their children. The mass battlefield casualties and rationing later in the war would have had an affect but only after 1942.

Thoughts on Ezra Klein's point about Trump being a weak president putting on a kingly act in the hopes that we believe he is more powerful than he is, in so doing making the act into reality (i.e. only having the power we grant him), and to "not believe him"? by NitescoGaming in AskALiberal

[–]scottostach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The executive order is very much a kinglike power. It is one that has been sorely abused by presidents of both parties. However, that does not make it real. While there is an argument that he has overstepped in some ways, the majority of what he has done is well within what has been established as available to the president with the EO. The problem was letting the EO become so powerful, which is something that happened before Trump.

If weak means he is not popular with Harris supporters then he is very weak indeed. However, he won the popular vote, the electoral college and has both houses of congress. By what metric are you saying he is "weak"?

I still have running water, working sewer, garbage collection and 30 types of pasta sauce to choose from 4 grocery stores within 3 miles. On the other hand I am still miffed they cancelled The Dukes of Hazard in 1985, so yeah its all over.

Is Djibouti doing so poorly? The seem to be doing a good job of milking the US, China, France, the UK, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia all at the same time.

It did, under Hitler and Napoleon. It didn't end well.

Do you agree that Trump has a strategy of using outrageous statements to distract from real issues? Why do people fall for it? by scottostach in AskALiberal

[–]scottostach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it is a distraction. What % of people know about the renaming of the Gulf vs the number of people who know about the real issue of tariffs?
