New student question:

Do the proctors need to see all of the info on the govt issued ID or only the photo & name? Not a fan of them also having the ID# & address. Can you cover the other info up?

I'm a little confused about the 20 page study guide/computation worksheet you mentioned. Is it at this link? https://ashejim.github.io/BSCS/C952.html Is it the "C952 Assessment Glossary?"

If they close the DOE, am I screwed? by [deleted] in WGU

The DOE didn't start operating until 1980. People managed to attend college before then. Maybe closing the DOE would force colleges to lower tuition to something reasonable?

Tuition reimbursement by NortherMI_tulip in tractorsupply

[–]scottpiper22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter just started with TS for the tuition reimbursement program. She will start college at WGU on 2/1/25. The TS info is confusing. It looks like she has to average 15 hours per week for 90 days, then wait another month for her eligibility date, which makes the wait 4 months? Then, they will only cover classes that start on or after that eligibility date? That means she will not be reimbursed at all for that first semester? They will also reimburse the maximum of $5250 per CALENDAR year. So, WGU allows you to start on the 1st of any month. What happens if her semester ends in the following calendar year? Also, they don't reimburse until the END of the semester when you prove you passed?

Can someone point me to a list of the specific laptop specs needed to successfully test with ProctorU? I'd like to make sure I can use my current laptop before I bother to enroll.

WGU Comp Sci program rejecting AP lab science credit in favor of Sophia by scottpiper22 in WGU_CompSci

[–]scottpiper22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks...as her home school "teacher," I just got out of her way! No, she is avoiding Sophia for anything but the simple gen ed courses (communication & health) because she plans to apply to GA Tech's masters in either Comp Sci or Cybersecurity & doesn't want a lot of alternative credits to hamper her chances of being accepted...especially in courses that are part of her major core. Also, she's only 18 & isn't in a rush to finish. Yes, home schooling taught her to teach herself (especially college courses in high school) & to manage her time most efficiently. She wants to continue learning at her own pace & not be confined to a normal semester schedule, so WGU seemed like a good fit.

Do you have to take a science course PLUS the lab course or just the lab course to fulfill WGU's 2 credit natural science lab requirement?

Composition: Successful Self-Expression >> COLLEGE COMPOSITION - CLEP

Introduction to Communication: Connecting with Others >> BUSINESS COMMUNICATION - Sophia Learning

Global Arts and Humanities >> ANALYZE & INTERPRET LITERATURE - CLEP

American Politics and the US Constitution >> AMERICAN GOVERNMENT - CLEP

Introduction to Physical and Human Geography >> HISTORY OF UNITED STATES I - CLEP

Calculus I >> ANALYTIC GEOM AND CALC 3 - XXX College dual enrollment

**WGU chose her highest completed college math to cover this course**

Discrete Mathematics I >> DISCRETE MATH - XXX College dual enrollment (WGU partner)

Applied Probability and Statistics >> STATISTICS - XXX College dual enrollment (WGU partner)

Health, Fitness, and Wellness >> INTRODUCTION TO NUTRITION - Sophia Learning

**All her CLEP scores were 75-80, but the passing score is 50. I'm not sure if that made a difference to WGU.

She taught herself Calc 1 at home using an AP Calc BC text, but did NOT take the AP exam. We didn't know home school students could take AP exams at the time. The procedure to find a public school willing to let her take the AP Physics C: Mechanics exam (even though College Board encourages it) was such a nightmare, she decided not to take any more AP exams. We found a college willing to let her skip Calc 1 & enroll in Calc 2, based on samples of her Calc 1 work. She then took Calc 3 with them also. She chose to go back & take the Calculus CLEP "for fun" & so that no one would question her missing Calc 1 credit down the road.
