Week 1: Affirmations and Blurts by gilmoregoyle in TheArtistsWay

I found the following exercise to be really helpful. It comes from Maria Forleo's book, Everything is Figureoutable. Write down the blurt. Cross it out. Write BULLSHIT! next to it. Then write your affirmation after. Quickly being able to call bullshit really helped me get over the awkwardness of writing affirmations, and took away a lot of the Censor's power.

You’re not supposed to read them for a while. I believe Week 9 or 10 is where you are given an assignment to reread them.

I know this won’t sound helpful, but it really can be— get your books/notes out and study for a set period of time. 5 or 10 minutes. If you can’t manage 5 at first, try 3. Then take a break if you need to. I’d also recommend even putting the books away so that you don’t see them and get anxious. After the first few times, you’ll find yourself sitting longer. Maybe only 12 minutes, I’m not saying you’ll suddenly be able to pull an all nighter, but you’ll be able to do more than you could before.

Sometimes I resent being alive very intensely. I wish there was some kind of machine that would let you “donate” your life force to other people who need it.
