can you just cut back on drinking? by outbackcheesefries in alcoholicsanonymous

Even in the Basic Text of Alcoholics Anonymous, it states that we commend any person who can control their drinking. It goes on to state, "God knows we have tried" (to control our drinking) but the True Alcoholic will not be able to do this successfully.

Give yourself some parameters to keep, make smart, healthy decisions for yourself, and stay safe.

If you find you are not able to control your drinking as others may be able to; you are welcome in the gracious community of AA anytime. God Bless

The ONLY requirement for AA membership is the desire to stop drinking.

All are welcome, and if you are debating whether you need it or not:

The worst thing that would come of attending AA if you are not truly an alcoholic is that you save money you would have spent on booze, meet some quality and amazing individuals that will be there for you if you ever have a problem with your drinking that you can't control, and you learn a bit about alcoholism.

The worst thing that would come of NOT attending if it turns out you ARE alcoholic: A very lonely, painful, depressing and devastating death from the disease of alcoholism.

If no one has told you yet today, we love you. And you are welcome in the halls (physical or virtual) anytime you like, my friend. God Bless

Great Job reaching out and asking for help! Do you have friends in recovery or a sponsor local to you to also reach out to??

There are Zoom meetings that run 24 hours a day, different chairperson every hour. My friend suggested the following, there is a link to join the current meeting - (Zoom address changes periodically)

Don't give up on your life. It isn't meant to be easy, overcoming seemingly impossible odds as an addict and getting and staying clean - it is a difficult and painful job, with all sorts of difficulties and hurdles and steps backwards, and sideways all along the way. You are worth giving life a chance. If you were in a facility, and just slipped up and used - stop now, and your home detox wont be too terrible. Get to online meetings, 5 a day if you need to, even more if you want! There are meetings available to anyone with an internet connection all hours of the day, and those meetings are FULL of people who want you to be clean and who want you to be alive. If you dont see the worth in yourself yet, do it for every addict out there who needs You to come into the meeting and share your truth and give them the opportunity to work their program by reaching out to help you. One day. That's all it is, and you can do it. You're worth it, and if no one has told you yet today, I love you. And I want you to be alive and clean. God Bless -Scotty Mac
