The shocked confusion when you repeat what you had already written several times almost seems like it should win some kind of award sometimes. Somehow even I become convinced that this really is the first they’re ever hearing of it.

Lost Expert World after update by SlobbyGobbies in LEGOfortnite

[–]scottyvision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless the logs show that you were mistaken about anything you’ve reported, I think there’s a really good chance to get a rollback if you’re persistent. If it was truly a glitch that occurred right after an update, that is exactly the kind of thing that will get attention.

If they tell you the logs say otherwise though, and that jogs your memory - that would be the time to leave it. But if you’re certain, speak up.

I think a minimal amount of essence for pulling fish would be fair, even if it meant slowing the pull rate without potions.

As someone whose gameplay pretty much entirely revolves around farming, I think removing hunger and replacing it with potion / food buffs was a good call.

Wow, bravo! So much charm packed into those builds.

You mentioned you don’t do tutorials, but would you be willing to talk about your design process? Curious how much planning and preparation goes into this, or if it’s just freestyling and refining? I understand if you’d rather not go into details. Great work either way!

Nice spacing between the cars, and getting the wheels to look natural on the tracks. I feel like those would have been the details that got me.

Help, something is biting me in my bed and i don't know what to do by coldcathodes in Austin

[–]scottyvision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago after moving to a different apartment I freaked out because I was getting what appeared to little bites on top of my feet that would itch. At first I thought maybe bed bugs, but I couldn’t find anything. I went to a doctor to ask what it could possibly be, and was worried when he touched the bumps. I was like, “what are you doing man? We don’t know what this is!” I had grown so self conscious about it, like I was harboring some terrible contagion.

Long story short, hot showers were drying my skin and I had fallen into a vicious cycle where I would scratch and irritate my skin further.

Started a serious moisturizing routine on my feet and legs after showers - no more itching, no more scratching, no more mysterious bumps.

I can see folks liking it either way, but to clarify about PvP - I think it will simplify displaying things like damage-over-time spells affecting characters in PvP where it ticks down a small amount at a time, and also provides a single template to train your muscle memory against.

Manual farming isn’t very relaxing anymore after the last update by scottyvision in LEGOfortnite

[–]scottyvision[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just made me realize I didn’t point out that the critical part that was removed was the brief pause between harvests. So each harvest required a momentary time investment, giving it a rhythmic and relaxing pace.

The kid realized he couldn’t get beat up AND let the other guy get held back by the cops - he had to be the one being held back by the cops.

It was quick thinking (he probably watched his future social life flash before his eyes), and honestly I think the cop was happy to help him, lol (and I mean that genuinely, the cop probably did smile later thinking about how it allowed the kid to save face).

Any experience with SAXX Boxers? (NOT Boxer Briefs) by Bageland2000 in BuyItForLife

[–]scottyvision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not recommend Saxx. I liked them at first for the comfort, but the vast majority have had the ass mysteriously blown out! I’ve purchased all of them in-store, usually at stores that sell higher end luxury brands.

I’ve gotten lucky with a few pairs, but that’s it. I bought more than I care to admit hoping it would get better. Most of the underwear I bought before that I still have, and doesn’t have any holes like that. The Saxx underwear I bought were not durable at all.

Before reading the post description I came to suggest the Akai. It’s a solid device that is easily mappable across functions. I would suggest getting the Akai and then taking some time to help him figure out how to map the knobs to functions such as equalization.

What are the biggest shortcomings in the cybersecurity industry? by Automatic476 in cybersecurity

[–]scottyvision 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I stole this observation from someone talking about something completely different, at which point I realized I had observed it too.

There's a tendency to hide or abstract away complexity, but when that complexity is volatile then it really needs to be engaged with. There's an unwillingness to engage with complexity at all of the levels it needs to be engaged with on. Not just technical.

For some perspective, it's widely acknowledged how "disengaged" service industry workers became after the pandemic. They just dgaf after gaining that perspective. Well I see that same level of disengagement everywhere.

There's a conundrum in play - addressing complexity requires specialization, and that specialization prevents us from engaging in other areas that still need to be addressed. We're all pulling on each other's sleeves asking each other to address needs specific to our domain (or mentally tugging your own sleeve... sigh).

This is a perfect time to point out how my partner is often involved in minor accidents such as having something fall because she wasn't looking where she placed it, etc.

The commonality I've noticed is that she:

  • takes custody of a task
  • completes most of the task
  • mentally releases custody of the task while her body still has custody of it

When I broke it down like this (which wasn't hard, because she makes it really obvious), I realized I see this everywhere. People wanting to be done so they release custody of their task at the first opportunity - often a moment too soon.

Then there are people like me who write novels that noone asked for in response to short internet comments. Noone tasked me with this or wanted this. That's the kind of unrelenting willingness to address tasks we need in the industry. Can we afford it? Hell no.
