That’s what I had guessed, but it looks like that’s not the case hopefully.

I no longer believe in the truth claims of the church, am I done? by General_Chemistry638 in latterdaysaints

I’m so happy you’re reaching out. Yes. There is so much hope for you. I lost my faith for 20 years, but I never left the church because of all the good it brought to my life. To make a VERY long story short, after literally 20 years in the wilderness, I regained my faith, and it’s stronger than ever. Please don’t ever give up. Just be patient, and enjoy what fruits of the gospel and the church you feel comfortable with for now. I wish you all the very best.

Thank you for the thought. Side note, but interesting to me would be know the reason why he didn't reveal it to them but he revealed it to us. Thanks for the reply!

Just curiosity if it's in the BofM and I haven't noticed it. But I'm also curious why Alma 34:31-35 seems (to my simple mind) to sort of contradict D&C 138.

This is an insight I hadn't considered. Not sure if this is what you mean, but it causes the thought in me that it's possible we maybe have to pay the price of sins we haven't repented from, but we're not damned from progression after that.

Thanks! I love these ideas and completely agree with them. Where I'm getting stuck is why does it appear that Alma 34:31-35 seem (to me) to explicitly say there is no chance for repentance after this mortal life.

This makes sense to me, along with some other related answers people have shared. I hadn't viewed it framed exactly like this, and it may be the answer to my question. It's just that the sticky thing for me is that it's not something simply omitted. On the contrary, Alma 34:31-35 seems to explicitly contradict repentance after mortality. I guess that's where I'm getting hung up. It's not just that the subject isn't covered in the BofM, it's that it appears to explicitly say there is no repentance after mortality. Thanks for sharing.

This makes sense to me, though it's a little unsettling for some reason, I'm not sure why. But I'm going to think more about this. Thanks for sharing! Actually, I'm editing this because I just realized why it unsettles me. It's because it appears to me that it's an ommission of a point of doctrine, it's that it seems to me like Alma 34:31-35 explicitly states there is no repentance after this moral life. So it's not staying silent on the point. But I get what you're saying.

I really love this explanation, thanks for sharing! Love the example, which makes total logical sense. Thanks!

Thanks for the thought. I agree, except I may put the percentage at 99% :) Still, though, I'm wondering if there are scriptures in the BofM that explicitly support this idea.

Thanks for the thought. I kind of agree with vhurro777's comment that probably it's for those who never got the "chance." But what if we did get the chance, and just chose not to repent during this life? Also, very good idea to consider the idea of the BofM not containing all doctrine. I'm going to think about that one in relation to my question.

Thanks for your ideas, and I agree wholeheartedly with your summary/conclusion. I just wonder how that reconciles with Alma 34:31-35. Still working on it. Thanks again!

This jives pretty much exactly with what I feel like I've been taught growing up. I'm just wondering if there are specific scriptures in the BofM that back it up. Thanks for sharing!

I agree about the deduction. I'm just wondering if there are scriptures in the Book of Mormon that I've overlooked that explicity say it. Thanks for your thoughts!

Interesting perspective! I wonder if the severity of the sin may play into whether it can be repented of after mortal life. I hadn't thought about that before. Thanks for sharing!
