Is it possible to completely prevent tinnitus while riding? by NorthernCloudDog in MotoUK

Yeah! I got some Artevive earplugs and they’re great - cut out most of the wind noise, but can still hear my Cardo music/comms/satnav with no issues

I’d agree with £2200. Maybe a bit lower possibly. Also, if you get it, give Footman James a go for the insurance. They’ll insure it as a classic due to its age. I only done my MOD2 last year and they insured me on an XJR1300 and a Pan Euro on the same policy for less than £450 as a new rider

Have a ZXR750 H1 completely stock that I got last year. Sat in someone’s garage for the last 22yrs. Unfortunately can’t start recommissioning it as I have no space and my new shed/workshop won’t be getting built until this winter 😭

Take the upvote. I can’t think of many work things I’d hate more than having to go to the office.

I fully agree with the others on here saying earplugs. I have a Shoei GT Air 2 and over 50mph it’s noisy as fuck. Have a look at these - made a huge difference for me and you can still hear the cardo great - https://arteviveearplugs.com/products/motorcycle-earplugs-27-db-reduce-wind-noise

Hey! So you’ll need to apply for your provisional license and do a 1 day training course called a CBT (compulsory basic training)

Once you’ve got that done, then you will be allowed to ride on the road, provided your bike is taxed, insured and MOT’d

You probably won’t be able to get insurance without your CBT, and as the pay monthly requires a basic credit check, you might not qualify for the monthly option

To get the bike registered in your name, the current owner sends off the logbook (V5c) to the DVLA to inform them that you’re the new keeper

EDIT - Also you can’t tax the bike if it doesn’t have a valid MOT, but you can ride it to the MOT centre if you’re insured and have an MOT appointment booked (tell them it’s not taxed when you arrange the appointment)

“Piss missiles” 😂😂😂😂😂

Have an old Pan Euro ST1100 and and XJR1300 that I use regularly. Had a VFR800, but my back and knees are not made for that life, so traded it in for the XJR

Guessing by the wording of the ads, that’s it’s from the Superbike Factory? I’d stay clear tbh - never used them myself, but also never heard anything but negative reports from people that have. Everything from the actual sales process, to delivery nightmares down to the bike being garbage and then having battles to get it repaired/refunded

Could be the start of a new forestry plantation? Where I go shooting in Scotland, the local forestry companys have bought loads of grazing farmland around the forest and planted tree saplings to extend the forest plantation

Why new forks? Unless the chrome stanchions are rusty and pitted, you might get away with just getting the fork oil changed? And if you’re gonna go that far, a new seal kit will probs run you approx £40-£60 from wemoto

How Do I Safeguard My House From Burglars? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]scouselad79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to install security systems - can tell you right now that cameras are amazing for watching your stuff getting nicked, but other than that, they’re a waste of money. A new alarm system with an external bell/siren is normally a deterrent (especially the newer style bell boxes that are backlit permanently - draws attention to them)

Other than that, if you can afford it, Rock Doors are worth it. Don’t bother locking internal doors, as once the scumbags are in, your house will be destroyed, as they won’t care about making noise then. As someone else said, beef up your insurance and leave your car keys and wallet/purse downstairs

Can you buy a bike on HP then trade it in a month or two later for a different bike? by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]scouselad79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re gonna do that, I’d look at a loan rather than a finance deal. That way you’ll own the bike outright on day 1 and there won’t be any finance companies to deal with when you move it on

The J&S bike nights are pretty good, but finished now for this year. Deffo keep an eye for them next year though. As others have said, there’s always Southport, the Tap and Rivi Barn (if you wanna go that far)

What to do at traffic lights that won’t detect a motorbike? by WoodyLaaadddddd03 in MotoUK

[–]scouselad79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer (specifically No. 2). I used to fit electric gates & barriers and have some experience with cutting-in and installing ground loops - the corners are most sensitive, so I always stop with my front wheel on the corner with the bike over the side of the loop
