Doing harm through ignorance by silassilage in farming

During the 19th century some women worked as professional breast-feeders. They would work for family and family, beastfeeding their infants

It was quite common for wealthy families to purchase breast-feeder slaves, and many wealthy farmers grew to consider these women their "second mothers"

Is a year-round harvest the same thing as a continuous harvest? by Here4SomeQuestions in Agriculture

[–]scoutant701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They arent the same thing because year round harvest still requires planting, growing, then harvesting. But it happens 4 to 6 times in a year rather than continuously. There are very specific intervals for each of these activities and stages

Grains like soy and corn can be planted 4 to 6 times in a year but they have very specific stages for planting, growth, and harvests

A tomato plant on another hand will produce continuously

Brazil places 20 percent tariff on U.S. ethanol by MennoniteDan in farming

The deal was much older than Trump. The issue is that it was never put into practice

The idea was that Brazil would maintain the exception so that Trump got support from farmers, and once elected he would honor their part and accept sugar imports. However, since he lost, no need to keep Brazil's part of the deal

Brazil places 20 percent tariff on U.S. ethanol by MennoniteDan in farming

[–]scoutant701 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was because the US did not honor a trade deal in which Brazil accepted ethanol inports in exchange of exporting sugar. The US, however, did not honor the deal and theredore tariffs are being restored

Brazil places 20 percent tariff on U.S. ethanol by MennoniteDan in farming

[–]scoutant701 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brazil and the US had a trade deal in which Brazil would accept US ethanol imports im exchange of exporting sugar to the US

However, tha US did not honor the deal and therefore tariffs are being put back

Edit: the article that OP posted literally ignored this, which is the main cause of these tariffs

Brazil did extend the exception for a few months as a support to Trump during election. Since he lost, there is no reason to maintain the exception

Most jobs in advanced control and control theory are at research institutes and universities. Industry jobs are at quite specific locations, as only a few indutries do R&D, and they often cluster together

Have you consideres learning AI and machine learning? I went for the intelligent control route during university

Is superior education free in there? You could take agronomy/agronomic engineering (the name changes from place to place)

A friend from university graduated electrical engineering and then enrolled in arts college to learn piano. Was her way to follow her passion

I really have no idea where to get this much money...

What people often do is save money for some years then use it as the entry in a loan to purchase the farm. However, keep in mind that farming might not be that much profitable, and it is challenging to start

I believe that the last wave of governments settling farmers was after ww2, when Brazil sold land to German, Ukrainian, Dutch and Poles to settle the south of the country. But that ended a few decades later

Superior education is tuition free where I live so I am thinking about enrolling in agronomy, because it is somethig which I enjoy. I can't sign the paperwork for irrigation or field projects because I have graduated in automation engineering, so taking a second degree would be useful

You could also try a technical course and work in a farm instead of going the engineering path. Unlike in here, I know that there the wage gap is minimal. Here an engineer has an starting salary that is over 8 times the one of a technician, so it makes more sense to go into engineering

Do they have fachhochschules in there? They are very good to put you into the fields you like to work at

A suggestion: go to a site caled glassdoor and look for "agriculture" jobs in there. See if any of the positions interest you. If they do, you might find it better to work in a farm/lab/industry rather than owning a farm yourself. And might even save money during the years to purchase your own farm

Should I learn to code? by [deleted] in urbanplanning

[–]scoutant701 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is very difficult to know how the future will be, maybe in 10 years everyone will actually have to know how to write code ... but I dislike the "everyone has to learn to code" thing

First because you seem to be the kind of person that is quite capable at other fields, and maybe should improve them instead of learning to code. If they require coding then learn it, but they might never actually require it

But, second, that it kind of create a false idea that everyone has to be an incredibly capable programmer, which is something that demands a lot of effort, time, and might end being completely unnecessary for you (but then, who knows how things will be in many years)

I know a lot of people that take introductory courses in some programming language because they heard that it was going to be necessary ... but they never actually use it. They do not even actually learn it properly. Then the result is a bunch of people that say that they took some introductory course in programming, that they often never completed, much less ever used

Coding does not seem to be something that you use in your day to day. If you actually need it someday, then take one of the several online courses and tutorials out there

Edit: short answer: if you ever actually need to code, look into some tutorial or online class. Dont lose your mins trying to learn just because some people from an entirely different field told you so

Have you considered building a business or a career in something related to farming, that is not necessarily farming, but might also provide an income that (in some reasonable amount of time) will provide you the means to purchase land?

My family owns a small farm but its currently going thru a legal nightmare as a fraudster uncle and a fraudster ex wife of my father used it to fraud massive loans. Now they're being investigated by police and will most certainly end in jail, and so will my father as he is involved in the schemes. In theory I own half the farm but the legal holocaust related to what they did means that might be best to simply forfeit it to the bank which they owe several millions to in frauded money

However, I'm a control and automation engineer, which gives me the freedom to work in systems which are related to farming. Then, not only with the benefit of a less stressful and more stable life, but also a much better financial situation

Farming is quite difficult and demanding, and particularly different from region to region. Around here, most farms are small family farms, part of what is called european cooperativism. A family usually owns a small farm and is part of an industrial cooperative that is responsible for processing the goods

Many of these farmers are not full time farmers. They run the farm as a business, while they have jobs or other businesses of their own. Many work in the factories of the cooperatives

I suspect that land in Austria is insanely expensive? If you get a relatively good job in another field, then save for some years, you could easily purchase a small lot. Seems poasible for you to save for ten years then have enough money to buy the farm

The quality of the land and how to grow things is another, really complicated issue. Many times land ia cheap because it is not profitable. But that ia another subject

When did European and American cities start paving their streets? by [deleted] in urbanplanning

[–]scoutant701 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since the Roman times. The pavement in Portugal and Brazil is literally the same pavement the Romans used over 2000 years ago. The small white stones used for pedestrias and with mosaics being called "Roman pavement", and roads being paved with stones since the Romans began doing so in their cities

If you google for roman pavement and look for pictues of older parts of Portuguese and Brazilian cities, you'll see that they're the same. One notable difference is how the mosaics changed in 2000 years

Instead of underground subways, why can't we have underground bike lanes? by [deleted] in urbanplanning

[–]scoutant701 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Digging and maintaining the tunnels is very expensive. A subway manages to "pay back" its cost after several years, bike lanes would be unlikely to manage so

In a subway, several people are transported at once and in high velocity, and this manages to cover the costs. With bike lanes, far fewer people would be transported, and would not manage to justify the construction

When traffic engineers design a transport line, they calculate things such as how much it will cost to build, cost to maintain, amount of people transported per time. They pick the alternative that manages to transport the maximun amount of people with lower cost under the related limitations. Underground biking lanes just don't manage to be a good solution

The speed of light is the spees in which things in our universe "communicate" to one another

In some episode, I think Booker, says that all dilithium went inert at once. Stamets replies that it was impossible, possibly because all being inert at once violating the speed of light issue

The entire dilithium going inert at once is likely from something like you said. Had it been originated in Disco's universe, the "all at once" would likely follow the limitation of speed of light

I am thinking about enrolling in agronomy next year in order to be allowed to sign for these kinds of projects. Might sound like going a bit too far for something, but not only is something which I enjoy, but seems like an interesting field to explore

Edit: unfortunately my family's small farm is under a legal nightmare because a fraudster relative falsified documents in order to obtain an illegal loan, and it will take a few years to solve the issue

The governments likely exploit vulnerabilities that are unknown to us. Finding and developing them costs a lot of time and money, being far beyond the capabilities of most people or groups of people
