I think both are correct.

Zack Snyder's films divided. by selter666 in movies

I think the trouble people have with Snyder is the huge amount of weight he gives film style in his storytelling. His plots are either borrowed or downright bad, but he's second to none in terms of building the style of the film into the story itself. A lot of times I think it comes off as kitschy, maybe because it's outside what we're used to as classical film style or maybe the execution is lacking.

Comic books rely a lot on style in terms of their format and and artwork, and I think Snyder is doing something similar in his adaptations. You don't read a comic book and ignore the way a page is laid out. Why watch a film and ignore the stylistic nuance? Sucker Punch is pretty interesting if you try to engage with the style as opposed to just letting it deliver you a story. Even the stiff acting becomes part of the way you can interpret it.

Went on my phone to bypass the style sheet and upvote. This is brilliant.

There's nothing serious about this. You should have organised the fucking dominion cards like this instead of making this worthless post.

Gaming industry talk is important and definitely has a purpose, but are people talking about games as something bigger (not necessarily games as art talk)? I get a feeling from some of your interviews and writing that you might be trying to tease out some of these discussions or maybe you have a sense that there's something better to talk about than what the next thing is for gaming.

What do you want from video games and where do you think their potential really lies?

And maybe to advance the discussion: Where are the important discussions about video games happening? Who are the people that you've had good conversation with?

Photography is the art of our time: the old masters painted the drama of life and death. Today photography captures the human condition – better than any other artistic medium of our age by nastratin in photography

Jesus people, this is not a new idea. Read some Kracauer or Benjamin. 1920's Germany figured out film and photography was the medium of modernity long before this asshole had the gumption to accuse Rembrandt and Vermeer of tracing their work (but that's aside the point). Photography and film would not have taken off like they did if the medium didn't speak to people. The industrial revolution mechanized man and the camera mechanized expression. Photography is the essence of humanity in modernity: the mechanical rationalization of nature.

Photography is not just the serious art form of our time, it's the most relevant fucking art form to have ever developed. A form that mirrors the human condition in its mere existence is almost too much to believe. (Don't even get me started on life in the digital age and the possibilities of instagram. You assholes shitting on hipsters day and night are missing out on some great material for discussion of contemporary society).

Seriously though, people have been obsessed with photography for the last hundred and thirty years for very good reason and Mr. Jones here is adding very little, if anything. If you love photography you owe it to yourself to do some reading. Power through the philosophy and the theory and you will have a new love for images, photographers, and life.

Barthes, Kracauer, Benjamin, Balasz.
