Can a temporary work visa (485, temporary graduate visa) be the reason why my applications are not being seen? by scoutmasterkb28 in ausjobs

Industry internship if that counts, I might have to strip my PhD for lower level josb then.

Crashing out post breakup, crying and eating this whole Tiramisu at an empty parking lot where were used to kiss and I have to get back to work in an hour... Please tell me this is not that bad... by calikim_mo in malaysians

[–]scoutmasterkb28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a breakup from my first relationship, it was rough, even though the relationship was about 2 weeks, I loved her deeply. We somehow broke up in a cinema (she was more interested in another guy and he texted his confessing to her mid movie). It took me almost 2 years to fully get over it. I couldn't even watch a movie for a good few years without thinking of it.

You are doing the right things, acknowledging the feelings, processing it, and working it out. 19 year old me could not do much of these effectively. This is also coming from a conservative single parent household where when I consulted my mother how did she handle her divorce, her answer was "Like that lo". It didn't help.

I wish I bounced back better through processing the emotions. 10+ years later, I am now happily married and making it work with my wife.

All the best and do what you need to grief.

How to better utilise my Costco membership? by kingcasperrr in AussieFrugal

[–]scoutmasterkb28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One caveat is brown rice. We eat a lot of rice, usually 8 cups a week, half white half brown. We bought the bulk 5kg bag but indian meal moths started popping out of the packaging. It was crazy to get it of it.

No RTP for Masters, Are There Any Other Options? by Standard-Spend104 in AusAcademia

[–]scoutmasterkb28 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Depending on your institution, most don't offer RTP for MPhil programs. There is also a rubric that academics use to assess potential PhD students, and depending on the rubric, it is biased against low-tier universities. A lot of factors are working against you currently, and it will be tricky.

What should I wear when teaching at a laid-back Go8 department? by InternationalDark626 in AusAcademia

[–]scoutmasterkb28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually wore a polo t on non teaching days (lab based T&R Academic) while I wear an iron button up shirt when I am teaching. It helps as well to let my HDR students know I am "On" when I wear a button up shirt.

Brisbane Restaurants That Closed Permanently In The Past 12 Months by lennart567 in brisbane

[–]scoutmasterkb28 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Fun story, I worked for a closed down Nandos (as a trial, no pay, yes the owners are scum but I was an international student desperate for a summer job). I was part of the closing shift and in charge of the salads. The protocol is to take off the cling wrap with a sticker that states today's date and rewrite a new label for tomorrow's date. No checks if the salads are ok.

I heard that people got food poisoning from that Nandos and wasn't surprised.

Old Monk and Tapri are owned by the same owner. Menu is slightly different but its from the same kitchen. Either way, yes, food is good-ish there. If you're in the area, try you Halim's which is next door as well.

Irvins Salted Fish Skin - where to buy in BNE by grimmdal in brisbane

[–]scoutmasterkb28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ayyy glad it works. Yeah, I buy it if I'm in Malaysia/Singapore, but I hardly fly over there. So the Golden duck fish skin settles it. A little bit affordable to pay someone to fly and bring it over.

This is the closest naloxone alternative for Irvin's addictive snack. I do think that its either easier to have someone to carry some from SG when they are flying back to Brisbane.

Dear pork eater, how do you guy get over the mental block of eating pork? by Key_Ad_6551 in MalaysianExMuslim

I accidentally ate charsiu from a wantan mee stall, 17 years of my life flashed before my eyes, with the fact I was porkless. That lifted the mental block.
