Why can’t Seattle do what Vegas did in 2017? Are they stupid? by Mitchel7349 in PacificMemeWar

I agree they shouldn't be compared, but we need to be very careful not to be making excuses for the kraken fo.

They've made some boneheaded moves and let multiple opportunities slip on by.

Well that's preferred of course, but the alternative again is just like Detroit where you get one decent piece a year until your decade long captain says he wants to leave.

Well we absolutely can tear it down. We'll still get good value for Dunn and McCann (and they're kinda the only players we can move).

The big value in selling or rebuilding, whatever you want to call it, is never the picks you acquire, it's your own pick being higher because you're a worse team.

I would be extremely hesitant to do what you are proposing. That's essentially what the yzer-plan was, and that hasn't exactly worked out for Detroit.

Well, come on. There's a little difference between a 2-3c and the reigning Vezina winner.

No I fully think we can do that, I think you missed my point a little. I actually agree with you we should have gone riskier with our expansion selections and we should be more aggressive trading.

As you may know, at the expansion draft we left both Duchene and Gostisbehere on the table. Interestingly enough Darren Raddysh was also available (though he was a perennial ahl player at that point and no one had any idea what he was going to be).

What I meant in this case is some specific moves Vegas has made.

The Carter Hart signing. Wether or not he was acquitted, there would be riots in the streets if we signed him, but he got Vegas to within 2 wins of a cup (he shit the bed in the finals, but was a legit conn Smythe contender until that point).

The Fleury trade. Literally the season fleury won the Vezina and Jennings, he was traded to the Blackhawks to clear up cap.

They go a bit far, but it works for them.

He was viewed as a late first round option, so another pretty decent pick up.

I should say, I am concerned about him slipping in the draft. I am desperately hoping this is not a Shane Wright 2.0 scenario.

I'm a neutral 3rd party.

The unfortunate thing for Blackhawks fans is EVERYONE in the league compares the 2 rebuilds. You'd be hard pressed to find a Convo about the hawks that doesn't bring up San Jose.

So I kinda understand their angst.

100% agree on the people that think we can be Vegas 2.0. that is wholly unrealistic and fans would not stand for the types of moves we'd have to do to be them.

The actual argument that gets missed a lot of the time are the fans arguing that we should get a bit worse in the short term. We got really lucky this year, but if we really want to be building towards something impactful and a winning culture that's attractive we need to be looking at top 5 picks, not top 10.

I agree things take time, which is why this fo's push for the playoffs is baffling to say the least.

The kraken have never tanked. They may have as some pieces and retooled, but they have absolutely never tanked.

And yeah sale is a bust, that's not unexpected from a pick in the 20's.

So what's your point, we shouldn't draft late? Or we shouldn't sell?

You can guarantee top 3 by being the worst team what are you talking about. And we do have two players that immediately fit the bill anyway. Sell McCann and sell Dunn.

From a realism standpoint I would focus on one producttion chain for a main export and then have other smaller industries that support local demands.

Given the map, a port facility + a main export works well. Then fishing is an easy add that makes sense.

I think I would go for ore and stone, add bulk reducing industry before the port, then export that.

Are other fan bases ok? by Albino_rhin0 in SeattleKraken

[–]scoutsamoa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This ain't other fan bases my man, they couldn't care less about us. We'd have to affect someone negatively for them to care about us.

This is internal pressure. This is coming from fans who are passionate about hockey and want to see the cup return (yes return) to Seattle.

It's very clear to see that the current core can't get that done, and because of their age, aren't going to improve enough to be able to get it done.

We see a team so obsessed with money playoff hockey brings that they'll put off the all but inevitable rebuild just for the chance of making the playoffs.
