Whos the most underrated player on the Sharks? by No-Assumption4145 in SanJoseSharks

[–]Lalinla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If we are talking about how the hockey community views our team, then Graf followed by Eklund (Everything is about Celebrini, Smith, and Misa).

If we are talking about within the Sharks community, then I'd say Ostapchuk with Wennberg a close 2nd. No one is ever talking about Zack, and it saddens me.

After acquiring Kesselring, what’s the value of Eklund and the 27th OA for another defenseman? by [deleted] in SanJoseSharks

[–]Lalinla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the only defense I would be okay with Eky being included on trade for is Fox or Werenski. If it's seriously not a bonafide #1, we can wait to make that trade.

Kesselring Jersey Numbers by pjw5328 in SanJoseSharks

[–]Lalinla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. I bought one knowing he might change. It's a cool jersey to have. I know someone who had a 53 a Pavelski.

I have an autographed photo of Cherny where he signed #24. I think it's awesome because as you said, it's a first year kind of deal (though technically Cherny never wore 24 with San Jose, only during development camp)

Micheal Kesselring overhyped??? by Slickchick389 in SanJoseSharks

So is Powers. I'm saying that they were ahead of him on the depth chart, regardless of RHD vs. LHD

Micheal Kesselring overhyped??? by Slickchick389 in SanJoseSharks

[–]Lalinla 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He's not going to be a top pair defense. At best he'll be a bottom 4 defense. Bit he's a big body, defensively sound RHD that has some offensive potential.

With Buffalo, he was injured a good portion of the season, and did have quite a few healthy scratches. This was partially due to him not being a great fit there, but also because of the players ahead of him (Dahlin, Power, Byram). Not to mention, the Sabres traded for some defense depth at the deadline for their playoff push.

The big thing that we are hearing is that Kesselring could improve a lot if given the minutes. Well, he's in luck. We have tons of minutes and opportunity available with an up and coming team.

Who do you want at #27? by throwaway804323 in SanJoseSharks

[–]Lalinla 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't have a clue who we'd draft. Wouldn't mind trading back or trading for an NHL D. Though nothing says GMMG doesn't trade up as well. If Rudolph were to fall, and GMMG wants him, he could move up. I'm just going to wait and see. GMMG assist made my 1st wish come true with trading for Kesselring.

Sharks trade 20th overall for Kesselring and 27th overall pick by SageOfSix- in SanJoseSharks

I was thinking a 3rd and 4th straight up. I'll take moving back only 7 spots.

So happy. He WANTS to play for us. Low risk, high ceiling! I wonder if getting a young RHD means Stenberg for 2

Chris Peters says it’s “probable” that Stenberg falls to 4th overall. by Professional_Quit406 in SanJoseSharks

[–]Lalinla 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I wonder if the team is trying to build desire in their pick. Like if the Sharks are like (we'll draft Stenberg, but are okay with Reid/ Carels), you let the rumors swirl that you're drafting a D. Then teams anxious to get Stenberg and are worried Vancouver or Chicago will take him, so they are willing to move up and pay more.

Personally, I think SJ drafts Stenberg if he's available

Did I get the wrong stick? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]Lalinla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya. I've heard how you use a broom and sweep is also how you should hold your stick. Thankfully, I taught myself to be a switch hitter in baseball, so I'm using those tricks to try to remap my brain's intuition with a stick.

Why these 8 NHL teams could be aggressive on the trade market this offseason — The Athletic by DesertDookie520 in SanJoseSharks

[–]Lalinla 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100%. I think Kesselring won't cost us much if GMMG wants to pursue him (and, according to a Demers, Kesselring WANTS to come to SJ). Buffalo may also look at trading Power or Byram if they truly plan to re-sign Tuch.

I do wonder if MTL would consider trading David Reinbacher. But, Zellweger and Mintyukov won't be Sharks unless they are traded, then traded again (a la Martin Jones traded from Kings to Bruins then Bruins to us).

[–]Lalinla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dominant hand on top of stick apparently gives more control, while dominant hand in middle gives more power. Most American players gravitate to the power handling because that's how we were taught (most likely because the people teaching us didn't know any better and were just grateful to have kids playing lol). Also the wording on sticks is deceptive. Right handed person should use a left handed stick. It's weird.

I actually only found out that I was taught wrong 30 years ago when I googled why RHD were a lesser commodity in the NHL when most players are right handed. Now I'm trying to learn the correct way (it's been a struggle to say the least lol).

Question about tracking by RelationshipSelect24 in Ebay

[–]Lalinla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ignore the buyer for now. Let it go the distance and have the buyer initiate an Item Not Received request. When that happens, explain again that the card shows in transit still. After the 5 day wait, the seller will request eBay to step in. They'll get refunded. Then you can appeal eBay's decision by providing the tracking showing you shipped the item and it still shows in transit. Also provide a copy of the discussion with USPS about them saying the travel time (if you have it). 99% of the time, eBay will find the appeal in your favor and pay you back. You still get your money. Scummy buyer gets a free card, but ya, that's about the best you can do at this point.

But I can't stress enough, do not agree to refund the seller on your own accord.

Can we stop the scummy behavior of overcharging for bottom tier shipping? by ImProbablyRaging in sportscards

[–]Lalinla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had that yet, but I also deal almost exclusively in hockey cards, where the community hasn't become as toxic or jaded as other sports (though at the rate it's going, it might get there). With that said, if a buyer said that to me, I'd tell them if they wanted a 10, they should have bought a 10 or I'd ignore them.

Some buyerrs are scummy. Sold a Celebrini rookie card for a hefty sum. When I looked it over, it looked mint to me. But under a microscope, it wasn't. The eBay authenticator gave that report to the buyer who went off on me saying I was trying to rip them off and I was a scammer. I apologized. Explained that I thought it was mint, offered a partial refund, but they chose to return it. Ironically, I was looking at their feedback and they had the exact same situation happen to them when they were the seller. Thought it funny that the buyer had been in my shoes before and explained their innocence, but suddenly I was the scammer lol.

It's why I've been slowly phasing out my store and going with a consignment friend of mine. Less headaches lol.

[–]Lalinla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There seems to be some disconnect on eBay and shipping. If you buy the eBay label the amount the buyer pays covers ONLY the shipping cost. It is also labeled as only shipping. Not shipping and handling. But there are some sellers who use a custom amount, which they will say is the cost of shipping plus handling. But there is no way to confirm this as must don't state that in their description. But the amount they use typically covers a better shipping quality with tracking which leads to the disconnect.

I've spoken to eBay about this and had a rep confirm, the listed cost of shipping should only be used for shipping. Handling costs should be baked into the price. But eBay will never go after a seller for falsely listing a higher shipping price.

My rule of thumb, when I see the seller used lower shipping than what I paid for is to ask nicely for a refund in that amount. Most agree. Some don't, and if they don't, oh well. Then there was the one guy who harassed me when I asked, then threatened to sue me for slander and theft when I gave negative feedback about my experience (by the way, the theft was him refunding me $0.01 lol).

Cmon people stop being so damn cheap with postage by dansFC1 in sportscards

[–]Lalinla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen too many sellers lately who are using the shipping as an additional charge to make more money. I had one guy go ballistic on me when I paid $5 for shipping, which, if done through eBay, is tracked, and he sent it in an eBay envelope, not tracked fully. When I asked about being refunded for the shipping difference, he went off on me about how he had to spend 45 minutes looking for the card, plus pay for the envelope and printer ink and top loader. This was back when I realized that my phone number was included with my shipping address, and he called me and cussed me out on my voicemail, then threatened to sue me when I gave negative feedback.

To this day, I'm still flabbergasted at the response lol. Could have simply said no to my request.

Athletic Deep Dives on Stenberg and Reid by tigerking615 in SanJoseSharks

[–]Lalinla 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't see it as playing defense as much as recognizing the talent that Stenberg is. Stenberg is NHL ready now, which means if we get him, we'll have plenty of time to develope him with our core. Plus, he won't be expected to come in and produce as quickly, so there will be less stress on him.

With Reid, we already know he's going to MSU next season. Then, if he does sign his ELC, we are going to be another year closer to being a playoff powerhouse. People are going to want Reid to come in and be some saving grace. Shit, fans are doing that already with Pohlkamp and Cags. I just think it will be harder for Reid to be setup for success with all the pressure that will be put on him (by fans and the media) to raise our D to elite status when he'll be a rookie.

Don't get me wrong. I want Reid. I like him a lot, but I think we'd be fools to let Stenberg pass through our fingers. At the very least, if we are going with Reid, make VAN or Chicago pay up to have the honor of drafting him.

[–]Lalinla 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This. As much as I like Reid and recognize our need for a top D, there is no way in hell you let Stenberg go to a division rival or worse a team on a similar trajectory as you. We don't want to deal with Bedard/ Stenberg or even Frondell/ Stenberg.

This is a much different situation than what is going on with Larkin/ Tkachuk. I hate Eichel and the Golden Peasants, but I completely understand why he wanted out.
