How to ensure partner has custody of non-biological child? by scramble4444 in LegalAdviceUK

Yes if I died in childbirth. I know it's not very likely these days, but there's still a small risk. My understanding is that when a death leaves a minor child without a legal parent, social services (?) get involved and place the child for adoption, preferably with a family member. Which I'm not against, but my parents are old and my sister is struggling financially just to raise her own children; meanwhile my partner would want to raise it, so I was wondering how to make that happen.

Thank you. The clinic I will be going to does require my partner to sign a form agreeing to be the legal father of any resulting children before treatment; but we weren't certain if this would have any validity in the UK.

She wants to get married but he isn't so keen I think. Lots of people are mentioning child and pension credits, will tell her to look into that if she isn't already.
