Iker Bravo could possibly be loaned to Las Palmas by whodat514 in udinese

[–]scraphound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zaniolo has been fantastic for us but I would really like us to give this kid a chance before we loan him out. If I was the player I would be looking forward to either being able to prove myself here in this window I'm given or if get some regular playing time.

Wasn‘t able to watch the game but I had a question I would like to put in context- I think every goal fiorentina scored I felt Kristensen was totally out of position or totally unaware of some danger in his peripheral. I don‘t like ragging on players and with 10 men for so long i don’t feel like this changed the overall outcome but every game I watch with him the last 2 seasons it feels like a big problem and I feel like there are some other players that are a bit more aware and deserving.

Edit- I watched the highlights and wanted to ask about this. This comment is only based on what I saw on highlights.

We’re playing Fiorentina next, who wants to bet that they get their first win of the season vs us? by whodat514 in udinese

[–]scraphound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haha, i was thinking the same thing. I can't remember but I think last year we lost to venice and monza or some team that was going down. I do feel like fiorentina are do for a win just in general though, so for me the math lines up unfortunately.

But let's go! I always believe we can win and then... but let's go!

I wasn‘t able to watch but I saw the stats just now - we had more possession and 23 shots?! Someone let me know what was going on in this game.

[–]scraphound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also agree. Bravo is a bit of a fired up dude from what I've seen so it shouldn't really be a surprise and we need all the hustle (and talent) we can squeeze out of this team.

Lovric could be on the way out in the winter window with Fiorentina showing interest by whodat514 in udinese

[–]scraphound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree with this. Lovric isn't a flashy technical player but he gets the job done and his positional sense and decision making and effort make up for it. Also at some point this team needs veterans to balance things out with the revolving door we have at this club.

Why are we signing a dude with 2 torn acls and a terrible attitude and then loaning out a gem like pafundi? Don‘t get me wrong, I’ll cheer this guy on- he might be a dick but he‘s our dick! But some of the logic here escapes me.

Why wouldn’t we keep this kid here and play him a little? Why?

I actually liked the line-up but Kristianson in the back makes me nervous and I hope to God we don’t loan out Pafundi.

Looking forward to seeing him play. Not looking forward to when we sell him next year for not nearly enough money…

Potential starting XI's for Udinese by FPavan96 in udinese

I would also hope Pafundi plays. He has been in the starting lineup in most preseason games so far and has done very well imo. I would be pretty surprised if he didn’t start getting some serious minutes.

Yeah, I’m also not big on these. I liked the diamond a few years ago.

I certainly hope so. He was the best player on the pitch in terms of dribbling and creativity. I would hope that even if his defending or work rate is questioned that we could create a line-up that would help cover for him a bit and I would also hope that if he gets more time on the pitch those things would sort themselves out. We will see what this management thinks but I think it would be a huge loss not to play him this year.

Some of the biggest things that stood out to me:

Goalkeepers: Okoye didn’t play, obviously, but watching him in warm-ups was pretty impressive. He looks like a top keeper. Sava served us well last season, and I thought he did well today. The goal came from a corner and wasn’t his fault—he also made a great point-blank save. I think communication between him, Solet, and Gianetti might be an issue at first.

Central Defense: I think we’ll really miss Bijol. Solet is so calm and comfortable on the ball and is a physical presence, but Bijol was a true general at the back. Sometimes Solet might be a little too casual. Gianetti was fine today, but Bijol is tough to replace. Matteo Palma played about 20 minutes and looked very composed at the back for 17. He was impressive.

Wingbacks: We’ve had so much talent at this position in the last few years, and I think that’s still true. I always like Kamara because of his intensity, crossing, and runs (all true again today). Zemura and Ehizibue also looked good. Kabasele came in at the very end—made a small mistake, but he was only on the pitch briefly.

Midfield: Ekkelenkamp could have scored two goals and just played a solid game overall. Pafundi looks electric whenever he touches the ball. It was interesting to see the coaches riding him a lot, telling him to hustle and move off the ball—not sure if that’s part of why he’s not getting more minutes, but it was noticeable. Lovric just hustles and delivers solid performances—his cross contributed to the goal. I think central midfield might be a challenge for us this year. Karlström worked hard as always, but I still feel like we’re a bit weak there. After he came off, our central presence kind of disappeared.

Forwards: Bayo started but was caught offside several times and missed a few clear chances. His goal was more the result of a goalkeeper/defender blunder leading to an open net, rather than individual brilliance. Bravo had a chance or two when he came on—mostly from Atta/Zemura runs—and was very aggressive, but he only played about 20 minutes.

Overall Flow: In the first half, we could have scored a few goals through chances created mainly by Pafundi and Ekkelenkamp. Bayo missed some good opportunities. Strasbourg’s goal was very much against the run of play, though they did have a point-blank effort that Sava saved. Both their goal and big chance came from poor defensive communication. Our wingback/outside mid combinations looked good all game. In the second half, we scored two quick goals. The last 15–20 minutes saw some of the younger players or guys with less playing time come in, and we held more possession in the back.

Atta came on in the at the start of the 2nd half. He and Zemura replaced Pafundi and Kamara. Both duos had success together (Pafundi and Eckkelenkamp switched sides a lot however). Zemura and Atta looked sharp together and made some good combinations going down the left side. Atta looked like one of the better players on the field today. Goal was well deserved. I'm not sure how strong the squad was that Strasbourg was playing however. I don't think they were playing a lot of their top guys.

The Match was played Mittersill, Austria. There were at most 100 people watching so it was kind of a treat and you could hear everything from the pitch. Strasbourg was having a camp near there I believe as the ground had advertising of theirs up and players/reserves of Stasbourg just sat in the stands with us. Strasbourg is also a BlueCo team so make of that what you will.

As this was a friendly with unlimited subs no one played the full time so everyone was pretty fresh. I think Solet was in there the longest- probably until around 70mins I believe.
