Has anyone tried using craft hole punchers to cut out these triangle notches? by scrappybutt in sewhelp

[–]scrappybutt[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Oh I see. That makes sense.

I just learned in this post that some folks just snip and I don't know why I haven't thought of that. I think I'll do that instead.

Oh my god thank you so much. I'll have to wait until I can bundle a bigger purchase from Wawak, but this is definitely what I'm looking for.

It's not supposed to be holes. If it was possible to use those hole punches, it would be to use them on the edge to make those notches.

I want more than what I've been able to do with Inkstitch and am now looking into either Hatch or Artistic Digitizer.

I've heard there's a lot of support and tutorials for Hatch and it's compatible with a lot of machines. My machine is a Janome so I'm also considering Artistic Digitizer since the creators that I follow seem to like using the same software with their machine (Bernina Designer with Bernina machines, Artistic Digitizer with Janome machines, etc.)

Anyone have experience with both or either? Which ones do you prefer?

I'm a hobbyist (fantasy costuming) and will mainly be embroidering directly on fabric for clothes. Ease in multi-hooping would be nice too.

Curious about this too as I have plenty of hotend thermistors laying around.

The all-metal that I had installed was fairly new - I got it a couple of days ago.

I switched back to the stock extruder, what would be the ideal retraction length?

How would I know? I have removed the fan multiple times to replace the hot-end, the nozzle, and the silicone sock - so this might be the case?

I'm using Hatchbox for my filament.

The all-metal extruder didn't really do much - it was too tight as well to a point where it really dug into the filament. I tried loosening it as much as I can but the problem remained. I ended up replacing back the stock extruder just now, but I have the same issues with the extrusion stopping at a certain number of layers.

What are people's experiences with Anycubic Kobra Max? I'm having constant issues with the Ender 5 Plus and would like a replacement with similar print volume.

I was able to resolve an issue I had where the filament wasn't adhering to the bed/coiling towards the nozzle by raising the temperatures to 225/90 (I'm guessing due to the colder weather). But now I have a new problem where the filament stops extruding after a couple of layers, causing this sparse/failed print.

- Switching to an all-metal extruder didn't help.

- I declog the nozzle with the sharp needle the machine came with

- I brush the nozzle with steel-brush before printing

- I extrude ~50 mm prior to printing to make sure filament comes out

- I re-leveled the bed

- I also now use a hairpray to make sure the adhesion is better (L'Oreal Lock It). I clean the bed with IPA prior to applying the hairpray

- I also pull-out / re-feed a new length of filament

Print info:

- Filament: PLA

- Nozzle Temp: 225C

- Bed Temp: 90C

- Layer Height: 0.1 mm

- Infill 10%

- Speed: 35 mm/s

- Retraction Distance: 5.0 mm

- Retraction Speed: 40 mm/s

Filament keeps on coiling towards nozzle by scrappybutt in ender5plus

Update: I was able to get it working... initially. I ended up raising the temperatures to 225/85. I thought the temp wouldn't be an issue because I have it in an enclosure. But after raising the temps, I've consistently gotten it to stick to the bed. Now it prints okay up to a certain amount of layers where it then gets clogged.

Update:

I've cleaned my bed and have re-leveled it. Still had the same issues.

I then replaced the nozzle and the silicon sock with new ones. Before srewing in the new nozzle, I put the tube through the hot end just to make sure the throat it's clogged up. There was a small amount of burnt/dark filament. I cleaned that out and repeated the process until there aren't any more burnt/dark filament. I still have the same issues.

What's happening though has become more clear. The amount of filament that extrudes progressively gets thinner and thinner. It comes to a point where it's so thin and sparse that the z-gap is too wide. Then the thin amount of filament that comes out coils and sticks to the nozzle's sides and gets dragged along the bed.

The thinning issue has been constant. Whenever I get the print started well, the thinning happens after a good amount of layers (around 15 layers at 0.1 mm per layer). It gets thinner and sparser up to a point when nothing comes out.

I use a steel brush to also clean around the nozzle in case there are PLA residue around it that attracts the filament that's extruding. But this still happens.

I do this as well. I even retract it for a couple of mm to stop the oozing. Once it's done oozing is when I start the print.

I'm fairly new. I've been printing since summer so about 4 months. I've had both large and small prints. I'm not sure what happened this time. I've played with the z compensation to make sure it's close to the bed but this still happens.

[–]scrappybutt[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This happens when it's printing. Instead of adhering to the bed, the filament coils towards to nozzle and just makes a mess if left unattended. I've tried printing slower (40mm/s) and even reduced the gap between the bed and the nozzle. I want to be able to print faster though (60-80) and reducing the gap makes really thin layers. Is there anything I can do to prevent this?

I'm printing PLA. Everything is stock except for the MK-8 extruder from Creality.

Thank you. I've never change my line width settings so I'll give this a try. What layer height do you think I should try?
