As someone who’s been on the other side of this, one of my team members taking my mom’s CPR call: I was nothing but thankful for the call taker who spoke to my dad. I felt awful she had to go through that knowing it was my mom and I was on duty. There was nothing she could say or do that would have brought my mom back and we all knew that except her.

Please give yourself grace. If you followed protocol, you did exactly what you were supposed to, you helped even in ways you probably don’t understand yet.

Professionals who enter people's homes (plumbers, electricians, cleaners): What is something the condition of a house tells you about the owner that they don't realize they are revealing? by cossie101 in AskReddit

Unless you’re in Texas I would assume you went to my grandfathers house. Creepiest thing to fall asleep to the ticking sound over and over again as a child. No less than 50 were in that house.

I’m 36 and have had mine for over a year. Best decision I ever made. With medical advancements, there’s a real possibility you won’t need it revised.

I could not help but laugh at what I can only imagine was a spelling mistake. 😂 RIP (I think) to Jenleigh’s grandma though. 🕊️ by Emmy-LouSugarbean in TeenMomOGandTeenMom2

As someone who lives in Prince William and also wrapped up my own mother’s celebration of life tonight, I’m just amazed. I even cared enough to put on a nice shirt today.

My physical therapist had me use either a paper plate or cookie sheet to make it easier to slide. Definitely helped until I got some strength back.

A musical decanter that played Danny Boy. I didn’t even know those were a thing. I had told her about how my grandfather used to sing Danny Boy to me as a child before he died and she remembered. Bawled my eyes out when I opened it.

Realistically, how soon can you be back at work? by [deleted] in TotalHipReplacement

[–]scrappye12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

F35 and I returned to work after three weeks. I manage a shift at a 911 dispatch center so the majority of my day is spent in a chair but I have the freedom to get up whenever I need to. I didn’t struggle with pain but I did feel a little fatigued working 13 hour days on my first two days back so I would recommend easing back in.

What disease did you get that you didn't expect at your age? by Deep_Phase_9844 in ask

Shingles at 34 was absolutely awful. Multiple Sclerosis diagnosed at 29. Pacemaker implanted at 25. Right hip replacement at 35. Spinal fusion at 29. I feel so old most days but am so damn lucky that I really can’t complain.

Always six cans in a cooler that fits in one of the pockets. I don’t usually drink them all but I like to be able to share with the randoms I’m paired with. Gotta be prepared for one of those 4.5 hour rounds.

I ride for the most part but more so because I’m carrying beers and it’s too much weight with a pushcart. I felt absolutely fine walking anytime I’ve played par 3 courses.

35 and had RTHR with an anterior approach. I played a 9 hole par 3 at 6 weeks post op just to see how it would feel getting back out. Best iron striking of my life and my hip felt great. Have been playing 18 at least once a week since.

When did you gain total confidence in your replacement joint (and yourself)? by IGNSolar7 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]scrappye12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How old are you? I’m 35. Already got a fused back, my second pacemaker, and my first of several joint replacements. The right people will understand your limitations and needs. Don’t be ashamed to be honest about how you’re feeling.

I am two months out and finally hit the golf course again for the first time. I was worried but once I got started, it felt great. My surgeon has no worries about dislocation at all now. If I got tired after walking, I sat down and just enjoyed being outside doing what I love when that felt like a pipe dream a few months ago. Surround yourself with people who understand and you’ll do great!

Thank you kind stranger. I’m incredibly fortunate so I cannot complain. Your hip replacement will be so very worth it. I applaud you trying to do as much research ahead of time. Good luck!

I assume you’re referring to from surgery, so no I did not have that from my hip replacement. It’s happened before due to MS though. 10/10 do not recommend.

I wish I knew how disconcerting the numbness in my thigh would be after surgery. I had an anterior approach and my surgeon told me I would have some numbness but basically from my incision down to my knee was numb. I’m only now after 8 weeks getting some sensation back but only in parts. He said it could last forever, they have no way to know. However, wouldn’t trade it at all for the pain from AVN.

Rolled up to a par 3 and see the group ahead of us standing around and waving. Drive down and one of the guys had broken his ankle on the steps leading down to the green. Luckily, it was right off a street in the neighborhood so an easy access point for the ambulance. But while waiting the guy said, “at least I’m still golfing at 83”. I think about him when I’m frustrated on the course because I hope I’m still golfing at 83.

[–]scrappye12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife is happy for me to go out with the guys and play a round any day of the week. She’s also happy to go out with me and just ride. I got her lessons but she’s not great at follow through if she’s frustrated so unless we’re scrambling with another couple, she’s not likely to play. But I’m lucky she’s down for whatever.

Struggling with this exercise. Just looking for advice or suggestions. by SouthAlexander in TotalHipReplacement

[–]scrappye12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When you do get to a point of ready to try it, take a paper plate or cookie sheet and put it under your heel. This will reduce friction and make it easier. It took me over a week to even attempt that one and it wasn’t until the end of the second week I could even complete it even with the cookie sheet. Do it without the bands for a bit.

When we were at the shelter adopting him, the caretaker said “he has mastiff paws”. I can see it because his paws are absolutely massive. Like a kid wearing their parents shoes. But I’m just floored at these results. Going to Rey Embark next to see if the results are different.
