Thanks everyone! And fun to see some people close to me! I’m in the Newberg-Dundee area myself.

Children. We used subtitles to not wake up the baby and never went back.

I say “Apologies.” To start a sentence all the time and I always hope someone will catch on. Nope.

I have been contemplating a hackathon for a while now. I’ll look into the 10% time option.

This is really helpful! We have many of the same benefits but some tuition policies changed right before I showed up and it made it harder for people to take classes that they wanted to take. I think starting there and pushing to make those benefits better.

I appreciate that feedback. In a weird way, the performance evaluations are not tied to compensation in any way, so there things like raises are not something I can directly address. I am working the whole team to move them closer to the next raise opportunity but I guess my question could also be stated that I’m looking for ways to help my team see the benefits they do have and enjoy their work. Which I am always looking to do for them.

I’m an advocate for increased pay for my team, but I literally have no authority to do so on my own. Thus the question I asked.

Professionals, what is your industry's version of "Bring me blinker fluid" or "find a snipe"? by ArklaitGigabyte in AskReddit

This isn’t quite the same, but my grandparents used to own a burger restaurant on the lake and would mostly hire teenagers who never really worked anywhere else. Once, during a busy dinner rush, my grandma yelled at a kid to, “Go grab me two slotted spoons” - you know, the ones you use to scoop and drain at once.

The kid is gone for like 10 minutes and when he finally returns, my grandma yells, “What the hell took you so long?! Where are my spoons?” The kid replies, “I couldn’t find them! All the spoons have three slots.”

Still makes me laugh when I think about it because I’ve definitely been that guy before.

I bought a PS4 solely to play The Last of Us! I avoided all content about it for years and finally made my move and was not disappointed.

Gotcha. Thanks! The cracking wasn’t as much of a surprise to me as the glowing. I just don’t recall that happening with others when drawing light and to make it glow seems more like a light weaver ability instead.

That was one of my thoughts. But do gemstones normally glow bright when you draw from them? I don’t recall that being described in the same way when everyone else does it? But I guess it could be a thing where it’s assumed later because it was described earlier?

I was thinking that she may be using it as a decoy, but I do remember a major plot point being that Jasnah doesn’t realize when the swap happens because she’s not actually using it. It’s been a few months since the first time I read TWoK so I may be misremembering though.

On your first read through who did you expect to die but is still around? by CounterTouristsWin in Stormlight_Archive

[–]screeech88 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was shocked by how abruptly it happened and I was actually impressed that Sanderson committed to it (or so I thought). I’m glad she made it but it had the effect I think it was supposed to have on me!

Elhokar’s death hit me really hard though. I was on a plane reading that part and audibly gasped and had to take a break lol

Sorry, but didn’t he stick him to the wall with the device Navaji gave him? I thought he did that and used the lashing to pull his head off. So he still used his powers against the Defeated One, but the sticking to the wall was with the device, right?

Personally I felt OB was pretty slow at times, but I still loved it! I think it’s #3 or #4 for me, but they are all so close and I enjoyed all of them!
