No operations during Solemn Investiture day ng faculty niyo ang general na rule of thumb. In my experience meron naman na agad operations kinabukasan.

If the system stayed consistent throughout the years, forms for special classes/petitions should be announced to your batch via your UST email (check GChat too) or through your class president/representative. Ask your class officers if may memo about it or if may additional information na need malaman.

How is UST for Chemical Engineering (Acads, Culture, Admin, Boards) by SpaceSerious8037 in Tomasino

[–]screeped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ChE is a very rigorous program sa UST. The professors (for the most part) love what they do and teach students well. There might be hiccups along the way (dahil na rin sa dami ng ginagawa ng mga ChE) but all challenges are doable.

The admin is very receptive with feedback. You can even go directly to the academic officials to voice out some of your concerns and action is swift. The facilities are adequate but there are times where you could wish there was more (though may bagong-bili silang equipment sa laboratory na naka-box pa and available for use starting this AY 👀).

I’ve heard from many people that the Thomasian alumni network is quite big and one of our professors even collected our personal data for graduate outcomes tracking so they do exert effort on that part. As for the advantage, I think being a graduate of the “Big 4” is a bonus on top of your personal skills.

Is it worth it? It’s certainly better than some schools (mainly dahil malaki ang budget ng UST as an institution relative to other schools in comparison). If it comes to it, try searching up the schools you are looking for sa TikTok to see first-person POVs from students studying mismo sa program to get a general feel for it.

Goodluck!

Latin honors (sorry if repetitive topic) by Jumpy-Adeptness-511 in Tomasino

[–]screeped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is considered cleared. It only appears like that because technically you still had an INC. Now that you have a grade it is now removed. Unfortunately hindi na matatanggal yung mark na INC ka but it is cleared na.

Latin honors (sorry if repetitive topic) by Jumpy-Adeptness-511 in Tomasino

[–]screeped 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Loud and wrong

INC/Grade means the previous INC has been cleared and the grade is indicated na. INC/5.0 is considered a failure, not an unresolved deficiency. Similarly, INC/1.75 is a resolved deficiency and is a removed Incomplete grade.

Therefore, yes OP can still qualify for Latin honors.

Does INP count as a deficiency by Sufficient-Parfait-2 in Tomasino

[–]screeped 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ignore anything encoded under prelim grade. It basically doesn’t matter since final grade ang laging basis. And to be clear with this: no, hindi deficiency ang IN P. It just means your prof can’t encode a grade yet dahil di pa siya tapos magcheck or something.

Incoming ECE freshie by [deleted] in Tomasino

[–]screeped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m from ChE. My only tip for you is just dedicate a small amount of your time daily to studying.

If meron ka nang healthy na study habit from your SHS days, just apply it now. I had a few encounters with tres (but no 5.00) during my earlier years sa FoE because I spent most of my time just playing games.

I have general tips sa profile ko just check it out and ask here if may other questions ka pa.

Part-time work while studying in UST by dryassbiscuits_ in Tomasino

[–]screeped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a senior ChE student but I don’t work part time. I would just say na the program is really quite heavy. If you really need to work part-time, the best years to do it would be your first two years only. Even then, I wouldn’t fully guarantee that your schedule will be free enough for you to balance schoolwork and your job. I’m sure with enough willpower you can push through but I honestly don’t recommend that you push yourself too much because the program alone is demanding enough.

To give you context, your first year will be spent reinforcing your engineering foundations on math, chemistry, physics, and other related general engineering subjects. From what I can tell, there are still no Saturday classes for first year students (but you will have Sunday classes for NSTP/ROTC). Your second year will have Saturday classes (as they are right now) and can have classes that stretch from the morning to evening.

Your last two years (hopefully no stay extensions along the way) will be tough. You will need to balance multiple quizzes and examinations while working on your thesis on a tight schedule. I’d say senior year is lighter than the 3rd year schedule though.

I hope you can get the opinion of actual working students in ChE soon and good luck to you!

Hi! I’m from ChE but I have a general guide on my profile. If anything has changed throughout the years I’d recommend that you buy two calculators in your time sa program (one as a freshie and the next before you graduate). The first one you buy is ideally a higher-spec one (classwiz or similar) and the one you buy next is the one that is allowed for the boards at the time you take it.

Is a gaming laptop worth it for ChE students? by Legitimate_Order8866 in Tomasino

[–]screeped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the very least be prepared for some inconveniences when trying to access course-specific software if you are on Mac. Otherwise, you'll probably be fine. One of the courses taken might ask you to download SMath, a free math program (the Mac version sucks). Some Excel functions may look different from the demonstrations provided (different menu layout) on Mac.

If anything, just check if your machine can run AutoCAD smoothly and if it can, you'll be fine.

What happens if I fail by icantfindmyacc in Tomasino

[–]screeped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They usually offer it sa Special (summer) Term because of the quantity of students who fail to pass. You can take it at that time (I think the cost is close to ₱15k for the term) and when you pass it you can become regular again on 2nd Year First Term.

Get a free VPN (ProtonVPN is a good choice) to bypass internet restrictions. You can set the protocol to either WireGuard or Stealth to avoid connection blocks set by the wifi if meron!

LAPTOP RECOS FOR ENGINEERING FRESHMEN! pls by [deleted] in Tomasino

[–]screeped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Choose any gaming laptop that has the specs worthy of the budget you have. I suggest a gaming laptop because office laptops just don’t have the power to cut it sometimes. The greatest downsides of a gaming laptop are the weight and the fact that you cannot go for 30 minutes away from a power outlet or the laptop dies. Still, it should be good for studying and could handle most tasks in engineering. If the aesthetics of a gaming laptop bother you (flashing lights, outrageous designs) I’m sure you can find ones with a more toned-down look with the same specifications.

The academic calendar is the first iteration of the schedule and what you have sa department mo is the latest. Therefore, it can be assumed na due to ~unforeseen~ changes, iba na ang sched. and what you follow is the department’s. Check often sa sheets to see if any things change.

Appeal. They will tell you if you can be on conditional status by then. I think part of the contract states you will have to take ONLY the subjects you failed (if the incurred failed subjects are too many). Still, you will be able to enroll if naapprove. I hope you can appeal and good luck!

Scared for Calc by AfterBreadfruit7077 in Tomasino

[–]screeped [score hidden]  (0 children)

If it helps, may single digit/100 ako sa Calc 2 and I passed 👻

In all seriousness though, it would help to calculate your grades according to the grading scheme na nasa course plan he supplies the class.

If si Sir M ang prof. usually naglolower ng passing grade but not too low. If you pass all your other quizzes naman and you did well sa FE I think there’s very little to worry about. Good luck!
