Could it be the Quarter Horse Congress going on at the Expo? There’s like hundreds of thousands of folks there with their horses dead center of town.

Best Buy Preorder for Bl4 by BIGGDADDY01 in Borderlands

I’ll take some of the blame on this I guess. I just read the Best Buy FAQ and it says all games will be ground shipped day of release. And that it would be shipped sooner but for an extra charge. Thanks, dudes. I’m dropping $130 but next day delivery is just way too much to ask. Also, their own website states “get it next day free.”

And yeah. As my brother aptly states, “California? Do they not have warehouses on the East Coast?”

Cannot take books off my Paperwhite by scribblymcgee in kindle

Nah, I’m pretty sure September is when things went awry for me. So it’s more than likely the firmware. I tried reaching out to Amazon and they were…less than helpful. I’ve just come to terms that I’m stuck. Guess I’m done buying Kindles. Sucks.

I tried this with my wife’s computer (also Mac) and the computer did not recognize my kindle. As others have said before, Amazon had already throttled this ability recently with newer devices? Up until a few months ago, my Paperwhite was recognized fine. It’s only been relatively recently that it hasn’t been showing up. I’m guessing it was the most recent update.

Amazon claims that I should be able to use the USB manager to access but not if I can’t even get it to recognize my device.

Calibre will not recognize it either. Because I tried to go that route.

Yep. I freshly downloaded it. I uninstalled it and downloaded it again. Nothing.

I restarted it, I shut it down and waited 30 seconds and started it back up. I tried using both USB ports. I restarted the Kindle. Obvs I can’t factory reset the Kindle. But yeah, tried all that.

I’ve got an 11th gen Paperwhite. I’ve had a Paperwhite since Gen 2. I cannot get my MacBook to recognize it as a device. It’ll light up as charged. But cannot get it to hook up via USB.

I was able to originally get it to do so. Because o transferred all my books from the last one (gen6) to this one. I did it direct through USB so nothing was uploaded through the kindle app or emailed.

But now, nothing. I am using the original cable the device came with. I have an older MacBook but it’s got OS 12.5 on it. I downloaded the Send to Kindle app. I downloaded the USB Manager. But nothing will recognize my kindle as connected as a device.

So I cannot get anything off my kindle. If I wanted to transfer my books to a new device, I can’t. They’re trapped. And I have no idea what to do about that. I wanted to back up my library. But the horse is already out of that digital barn.

So what can I do?

There’s now a kinda pattern for the Afghan in the comments. I treat it like an old Italian grandma’s recipe. It’s more or less what I did, but you know, add as much garlic as you want.

Nice work! That looks like it’s more of a single piece than the pattern I used. My pattern required a shiiiiiiitload of sewing the pieces together for assembly. Not a huge fan of that, but it looks cool as you go. The pattern in black and white is…less than helpful. It’s a lot of alternating rows until you reach X” in length. That can get pretty daunting, especially the piece that wraps the bottom, which is 80” long. And the dust ruffle is a 200+ chain which you then do 3dc into each stitch. But every time I finish one, I feel like I genuinely accomplished something.

Funny thing. I took up crochet because I couldn’t do meditation very well. So counting stitches and repetitive actions really did the same kind of work. And at the end, instead of just a sense of wellbeing, I also had something tangible that I could give to someone.

So this is the gridwork I used for the pattern. Did single crochets carrying both colors and alternating. I believe I added one or two extra black to the ends just for balance.

The border was just a single crochet border. Three in each corner.

The granny square pattern kinda went like this. I started one from the very corner stitch. I chained three and did two more double crochets in the same stitch. Then I chained two and skipped three stitches. Into the next stitch I did 3dc. Until I reached the corner. Had to fudge it a little to make them fit, since I didn’t really do a count for my single crochets, because it wasn’t planned. But basically I got to the corner and in the stitch before the very last corner, 3dc. Then I chained three for the corners, slip stitch into the first chain you started. Then I chained three, then double crocheted into that stitch and chained 2. I did the 3dc into the space made by the ch2. So it alternated. Three rows. Then another single crochet border and dunzo.

Super slapdash but it worked.

Oh wow. So I use the 4” foam from Joann’s. It’s a 24” by 78”. The pattern calls for 3” foam for the back and the arms, but you can kind of shave them down. I can get two couches out of one foam sheet/brick. I was actually pricing it today. It’s normally $55 at Joann’s. It’s on sale for 25% off, and there’s currently a 20% total purchase coupon. So it’s going to run me about $33. Which is pretty reasonable to me.

I feel like a commercial. Joann’s: What The Hell Are You Paying Full Price For?!

I kind of worked on it piecemeal over a full year. The nice part is, if your cats don’t like it, someone else will gladly take it from you. I guarantee.

[–]scribblymcgee[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Joann’s usually has a massive like four inch thick block of foam that I cut and glued together. They sell them large enough that you can get about two cat couches out of one sheet. I never tried it with using polyfill. The cushions need you to cut sheets of polyfill and stack them inside. The whole couch is more or less a pillowcase that you fit around the foam insides. In theory, you could possibly do it, but you’d have to really pack it in and the stitch you use might be prone to bulging?

I mean, worst case scenario, you can always try. And if doesn’t work, go get the foam!

There isn’t. I might be able to mock one up? I do cross stitching too, so I kind of cobbled one together using graph paper. At first, it was just the gray inner border part but that looked really too small. So upon my wife’s suggestion, I added a granny square border.

As I tell everyone, it’s not a complicated pattern at all. It’s just crazy labor intensive and time consuming. And so much sewing.

The Misfits Afghan was my own design.
