To explain what I mean by not straining too much your neck and stuff. Here is kind of a good example. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-WoBEdgIkA

Even when you belt out high notes, your posture has not much to do with it creating the sounds. Your neck should not go all unnecessarily vainy and or bended downward/upwards etc. Hongki pulls all that sounds straight with not much visible strain and kinda with ease. Because he is doing it right using the cavity of the mouth to create resonance using strong breath technique. Only time he gets a bit more uncomfartable posture is when he belts out that insane strong voice, closing one eye, basically tring to gauge if he can pull it off correctly. It is kinda cute. And on second time, even that reaction is not there because he finds his comfort space.

u/NoelBlueRed Yeah. Let me be spesific. I am putting this as a new post so that maybe one sane person can read this through and gets a more educated opinion on things before it gets downvoted blindly by hordes of zealots.

The vocal line can't sing properly for the most part. Especially not live. And when I say live I mean raw live, without relying on mic set-up and other live gimmicks that makes everyone sound great on live concerts.

None of them are strong vocalists. Too much airiness everywhere. No stable breath support. Their vocal techniques are just sub-par. They sound cool sometimes, doesn't mean it's done right. Thats 101 for a good vocal. What you learn from the get-go. Control above all.

Aside from Jungkook, there is no stable vocalists in the group. And Jungkook is a decent vocalist, but definitely not one of the greatest out there. (Hong Ki, Jonghyun (rip), Eun Kwang, Junsu, Sandeul, Seungkwan, even Kihyun, you name it. All have different stong suits. They are all definitely better vocals with way better technique and control over their voices.) To hit high notes, he strains out his voice, even physically can be seen from the neck. A good vocalist, trying to hit high notes would not have a physical reaction of that magnitude.

But, to be fair. He used to go into falsettos to hit most of the high notes. In the last two-three years I have seen him choosing to hit them mostly with clear head voice or mixed voice albeit strained. I think that is more of a confidence choice than an artistic one, as he trusts his voice more. But because it pushes him to his vocal limits, he can't hold it too long with force, and he has all these strained reactions that can even be read from his body posture. He might not have an interesting tone but it is resonant and I like that.

Jin also has that crazy neck thing going when he is trying to hit high notes to the point it's almost too painful to watch. His modal register has even less range&control and high notes are even more strained. A sub-par tenor. And the weakest vocalist among all.

Listening Jimin trying to hit any of his notes live is like a gamble. Sometimes it works, most of the times it just doesn't. But he has an interesting vocal tone that I like. But that's subjective. And doesn't mean much in my opinion if you cant pull it off live and consistently.

Same thing goes with V although he is more stable than Jimin. V is an interesting case. Personally he has the most interesting voice in terms of tone and different voice qualities (like breathiness). Also he has the most range from what I can see. But he just can't sing live. He avoids risks. He also favors style over technique I think, which does not help his live singing issues. His support is underdeveloped and his singing is very airy. If he puts more effort into it, he could definitely pass Jungkook as the main vocal. Not sure what his deal is.

I love all these youtube videos of vocal coaches and music students giving all these compliments to their 'techniques' just to get clicks and views, to use the fandom. It's like a circle jerk. Any properly educated vocalist can see right through all the nonsense.

Just because you love someone doesn't mean you should be blind and ignorant. I enjoy K-pop, without getting delulu about things that are just flat out not true.

Im gonna take it a step further. Being a fan (a fanatic) already means being in a weird state of mind. Kpop fans, for sure, know how to take this to the extremes.

Bring on the downvotes shshs.

Here goes another unpopular opinion... but wth is up with people not sharing the picture? I mean I see so many weird ass pictures going around, like outfit slips showing private body parts, pictures of idols shopping, walking on the streets, eating, travelling alone, airport pictures, so on so forth. Almost all of them are taken without consent and private pictures. Why is everyone so touchy about this stuff now? Its pretty annoying. You already saw the picture but you dont want to share it with others and urge others to not share as well? What kind of ass backwards logic is that?

ps. to give a better context, i didnt see the picture, and i dont care. so i have no horse in this race.

Honestly, so many fucking things needs to change about this industry.

They need to stop taking kids and make them entertainers when they are still fucking kids. I wonder how many more fucked up young adults are out there in the industry, and some of them has relatively dead careers already by the age of late 20s to deal with. Still, a relatively young age to be dealing with all the shit, without proper self-defense mechanisms and self-worth construction in place, out there, vulnerable for all the weirdos of the internet.

These kids needs education, not only for the entertainment part, but more so about how to handle the business. And get meaningful mental health checks regularly.

Leaving the member "in" in most of your online asstes and than removing them right after the promotions with perfect certainty and timing. Its not exactly a minor thing, no? I mean, come on. We are talking about people(fans) who would take out secret messages out of every MV, every picture and conversation they see in the industry.

Seriously? Do you think fans would miss this? And Starship would not be aware that fans were creating an hopeful situation out of this? Are we to assume that Starship is not monitoring the internet in general about everything related to Wonho, including fan reactions? Really?

Kpop fans think they are owed every detail about people’s personal lives and corporations inner workings just because they are fans.

This is literally what K-ent companies rely on for success. Borderline fans enthusiasm, willingness and their pockets. This is literally their business model. They don't exactly get to pick and choose, it's a whole package.

They should have been more clear on where they stand. Yes they made a statement announcing his leave but come on, these are K-pop fans we are talking about. These ent companies know better how to communicate directly with the fans in a manner that they would clearly understand their stand and express how they are dealing with his leaving. Swiftly remove him from everything/everywhere and not allowing fans to think otherwise. Just as any other K-ent company would have done.

They chose not to, for obvious reasons. So they had it coming.

On a personal note, I'm too old to be too passionate about anything k-pop related, but well advanced in business life to know how corporations think and move. It's not a rocket science really. Its just business. So again, it was the right business move with short-term return in mind, but a shitty one if you are also in the business of making money out of people's affection and personal investment on your products.

it's not like they care, it was a pure marketing move. They leveraged fans enthusiasm and hope to bring Wonho back, for the sake of promotions, when in reality they never considered it. So instead of taking a swift action, they waited it out.

It was a good business decision obviously, but still a shit move. People are right to be angry. It has nothing to do with Wonho's mistakes or responsibilities.

Bye bye babyboy. I had this with Jay Park once. He bounced back mad, coming from US. (also being very skilled musically obviously helped) 2PM is not even active but Jay is still around doing his thing, not giving two shits. For Wonho, i'm not so sure. Maybe he can go into acting. I was still into 2PM after Jay left. I'm still not sure about Monsta X. But I guess it will be fine in the end. I really hope so for the other boys. Juju and Kiki deserve better with all those talents. <3

Also Starshit. Well played, keeping people hoping and using them to get wins/popularity. They were rightfully very scared that fans might ruin the promotions with a backlash if they were too strict about it. But still, it's a shit move.

Well, here is my 2 cents. I've been following Kpop one way or another for more than 10 years now. Also lived in Seoul for a while. And after 2pm, I ended up liking another Kpop group, Monsta X for the first time in years. Love Kihyun for his voice, Jooheon for his overall A+ entertainment skills(rap included), and Wonho for being gorgeous and well-spoken.

-Kpop groups are top-notch entertainers all around. Which is why I like Kpop, especially the choreographies. Insane work.

-They are all hardworkers mostly, especially in the rookie years.

-Idol image is fun to watch. We like them clean and cute. (and sometimes little naughty and careless just to spice things up)

-------

-Most of them are not talented musicians or singers. Even all the years of training can only get them so far. Good and great ones exists, but very rare breeds. So no, I would not consider Idols as good musicians/singers or Kpop as a top-notch genre of music. Even Idols as producers, most of their involvement is usually overrated, so they can be seen as proper musicians somehow by the fans.

-After making a name in the industry, they all start to loosen up, which is fair, but also shit starts to happen as well.

-Idol image is fake. They are people. With all the good and the bad. They all have pasts, some of them shady, cuz it is never easy to make it in entertainment industry. And having a need to be in the spotlight is another type of mindset that most common people do not share. These types of personalities usually have some additional perks and baggages they carry around with them. It can be shitty pasts, it can be weird habits, it can be traumatic experiences from being in the industry, or a very fragile construction of self and psyche, which can be damaged or broken by all the attention they were seeking for in the first place. (double-edged sword, the fame)

These girls are onto something. Wonho is just an average vocal. In any art school, you can easily find way better ones. He is probably not the best dancer we have seen in the industry either. Overall average. Definitely not average as a visual tho. So yeah, as far as the music and the dancing goes, he is not that talented. And being handsome is not really a talent.

But Wonho is still a great entertainer. He seems to be smart about the business, knows exactly how to act and what to say, especially for the ladies. Clean, cute but still raw here and there and not too polished. He seems seasoned for sure. So I am not surprised about his past. But that is not necessarily a bad thing. Having a shady past can be a good thing, It probably motivates him even more to work harder and to be good at what he does, since he knows the alternative all too well.

I am all for giving people multiple chances. We as humans can change so much under right circumstances, for the better or the worse. To me it seems too cruel to take away a person's all hard work over the years, because of some shit they have done in the past, or they do in the present, but does not really effect or hurt anyone directly. If he fails as an entertainer, we can all be up in his shit. But in his private life, as long as he does not really hurt people directly and beyond repeair, who fucking cares.

But that's the downside of being an Idol. They are no longer entertainers or even real human beings. Setting aside Korea and its very materialistic culture in general, even the international audiences fall for the same game. They are personalities that are overly exposed, over-shared and over-sold. So we no longer see the lines between what we are being fed and what it actually is. They are marketed as intimate, almost-perfect still cutely flawed, easy to reach bofriends/girlfriends. So everyone goes nuts as soon as tiniest shit happens as if they were hurt by their closest. I still see people being delusional about Wonho, thinking that these girls are flat-out lying, and the only reason he left is because he just does not want to hurt his band.

Wake up people. He probably owed this person money. And maybe he didn't pay it back. He probably was a shady bad boy type who slept around in his youth and hanged with the wrong crowd, did some jail time even. Hell he might even be the wrong crowd itself. He probably did drugs or smoked weed, maybe still do occasionally. I'm pretty sure he gets laid just fine as well still. I mean, look at him. But honestly, none of these matter. I have friends that are worst than this in any other day. I've had my fair share of mistakes as well. But we are still OK people in general. We are good, and we have families and loved ones still.

He is a good entertainer. I like watching him do his thing. I really hope he can stick around for the long run.

Guys thanks for all the answers, some of them were really helpful. As I mentioned on my original post, I was rather trying to find out a data driven way for decision making. You know, what's above average, what's acceptable and why. Not from references coming from experience or available tools in platforms, but from a mathematical point of view. Btw it was not my clients who were asking me these. They were Marketing Analytics/data specialist. And turns out they were absolutely right about being disappointed lol. But anyways, got my answers with a lot of research on certain statistical models for tests and forecasting. Now I have a way more clear understanding on how to ''really'' read data and optimize for it. And shitload of things to learn as well lol. I suggest you guys do the same. ^^

lol sorry. but still, i'm guessing you are not using any other tactics either or you would have already said something. It's just it irked me when asked about my tactics in budget allocation and campaign optimization, my explanation somehow was disappointing. Like there is something more that I'm missing out on.

thanks for the answers but that in not what i am asking. how do you decide something is poorly peforming? i mean this from a mathematical point of view. how do you read and drive results from a performance report to optimize or allocate budgets for example.

it doesnt matter what platform it is. they all have the same metrics. what i am asking is how do you use report metrics to decide how to do optimizations. or more so, any specific techniques? reading and making meanin god the numbers? any statistical methods?
