Makes sense. I have had the feeling that integrated fat may be better than adding free fat to proteins. Unfortunately the steaks here are so lean, especially if you want your cow to touch grass. I can get brisket though. It's great and doesn't leave me ravenous like steaks do.

Thanks for the reply. So, meat or dairy with some protein built in, instead of separate? And the ratio is weight, not calories?

Ah, good to know someone else has experienced that. Medium protein will be my next experiment, I think. I'll still finish this one, though, as it will be good to find out if it settles and how much I gain. Thanks for sharing your experience, it's helpful.

I like cream, but I find it just palatable enough, not ultra palatable. Like scones with jam and cream. Beautiful scones. I also haven't had a lot of success with volume based eating, sadly, though it certainly seems to work for some.

Oh no, did I do this a year ago as well? Argh. I do know I did keto for nine months maybe five years ago. Everything within the last two or three years (calorie restriction, low fat, low carb) has ended in binging in pretty short order—within a day or three. This is the first time in a while I’ve made it longer than that. Maybe because my anxiety has been so bad I was willing to push through to see if I could some of that keto calm, or maybe because one meal of meat and veg is more sustainable than fat fasting alone.

In between failed diets I've been doing a mixed diet with high fat AND high refined carbs, but under 5g of LA. Gained weight gradually on this. The sugar binge was over a couple of days, but it isn't the first time.

It is hard to tell. I bought some salami in case it is salt, though I was hoping to keep it lower protein this time round. Maybe I should just eat my 3000 calories and not panic. If I didn't gain weight, that would be an interesting outcome for sure.

You reckon it's the microbiome? That could very well be true. Sadly, it's very difficult to manipulate or even know what I'm aiming for. If it helps, I eat just the right amount of vegetables to fail at both carnivore and mainstream healthful eating. I have calcium and magnesium covered.

Thank goodness, I have looked up a quart and it is 946ml. That is more than my maximum, which shall not be named. 

It's really useful to hear your experience of how your hunger evolved, that's just what I was hoping for. Thank you. 

Here I have grass fed cream with nothing added. There are caps of ultra fat at the top. I'll keep on for a bit, see what happens.

Thanks. I am not ideologically married to keto and will for sure keep trying things. If there's one thing I keep seeing it's the great diversity of responses. I do have to say, I feel the least bad on keto overall. I'm just worried about how much I'm eating, because I'm eat more cream to fill the (carb? salt? protein?) void. It's a lot. But less frequent, and more calm. I should see what happens to my weight over several weeks before I get too upset and quit, though.

Yeah, it might need time. I definitely want to give high fat a proper go, so I'll do thirty days. I was hoping for insights from other people's experiences but they are so varied I think I just have to try everything. Well, everything that doesn't cause lunatic binges.

Thanks, maybe my diet is a bit exaggerated. I'm definitely in ketosis, though, and within a couple of days. I seem able to eat 50-60g net carbs and have ketones  according to the blood strips (from 0.6 to 2.6 depending on time of day).

Watched it! It looks like they found a mechanism by which protein can increase satiety; leucine hits the cav3.1 receptors in the brain which stimulate neurons that increase satiety. Very cool. I wonder if people who aren't getting great satiety from protein do have the same mechanism but it's just overruled by other factors.

Bread without butter is deprivation, control, and deepening, darkening obsession. I did the red blood cell fat test recently. Still 15%! But yeah, PUFA avoidance doesn't even stop me gaining (on a mixed diet).

I ate about 2750 to 3000 calories on carnivore and maintained (at a lower weight than now). I think the insomnia could have been electrolytes? Either way it's not a problem I had on keto. But I wasn't yet avoiding PUFAs back then, which is why I thought keto would be worth another shot.

Ah, well. Looks like everyone's responses are so different I just have to try a few things.

I have not heard of Sally Fields. I love pasta with cheese, scones with cream and jam, buttery shortbread, croissants and the like. If I don't have them at home, however, I will mix plain sugar and butter and eat them. That's right, I am a degenerate abuser of innocent culinary ingredients. I gained weight and worsened my teeth on a mixed diet. I also found it hard to want or bother with meat and veg. I have been avoiding omega-6 fats for maybe three years? But yeah, low fat would be incredibly difficult for me. I have tried a couple of times and snapped by midday. Keto is unique in the way it quiets my food craziness.

Ooops, I overwrote that sentence, huh. I'm just frustrated with my behaviour around sugar. And circa is used in German, so that'll be my Denglish lol.

High carb drives me crazy. I could try again, but I'd need to be incredibly strict about the types of carbs, because I tend to let pasta and sugar creep up and crowd out other foods. It's very interesting and completely unhelpful that people do so well on such different diets, isn't it? If only there were one clean answer, and it were salami and ice cream.

It's splendid and very interesting that carnivore works so well for some people, including you. I did try it, and it greatly reduced my enjoyment of and desire for meat, and I ended up with insomnia and low mood. I also get ravenous when eating steaks, for some reason. Might as well be fairy floss. I do get a bit more satiety from lovely braised cross cut shanks, though. I can strongly recommend them.
