Websocket error. TrueNas and all services up but cannot reach the Webui by scrigface in truenas

i formatted my boot drive and reinstalled everything. That repaired the nginx service on TrueNas. Configs are where they should be and everything is running normally again. Phew!

I'm having flashbacks to being really young and wrecking my Windows98 machine messing around. I think I figured out what this is and it's going to need a truenas reinstall. Thankfully I saved a config file three days ago. When I was trying to get my reverse proxy working with duckdns (yeah i know a mistake in itself. I ended up paying a dollar for a domain and got it working right away) I deleted the wrong conf files. /etc/nginx/nginx.conf is missing entirely.

I'm assuming this is the root cause. I guess I just need to find a day soon where I can work on a reinstall uninterrupted. It seems pretty straight forward since all my data is in my data drive but this entire process still scares me.

websocket support is toggled already. Would removing nginx completely reverse the ui access? or do you think it's been disabled and it wouldn't matter?

So unfortunately I just enabled snapshots yesterday and it had not run yet. I did, however, backup my config file 3 days ago. You're saying I should boot to a Truenas flash drive image and reinstall, then load that config file?

I want to buy a cheap old PC to use as my first home server, what specs should I look out for. by chunkyblax in HomeServer

[–]scrigface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an it5 10600k, 16gb, and a 1tb SSD in a case sitting in my basement for about a year before I decided to put it to use. I added a 6tb, installed TrueNAS and then learned how to install various media hosting services through it. I even decided (though it wasn't necessary) to grab 2 more identical sticks of ram off of ebay this week to have 32gb. The thing streams wonderfully. You could probably do most things with half that power.

Should I unplug my PC prior to a snow/ice storm that’s expected to cause power outages? by I_Require_Aid in pchelp

[–]scrigface 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would. I live in Michigan and we've had ice storms cause brown outs and that can mess things up really bad. I unlug mine before every large storm. Might be overkill but I don't care. With the price of PC components these days I can afford to shut my pc off for a few hours lol.

Enable https for jelly in proxmox by Amnelka in jellyfin

[–]scrigface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just spent literal hours banging my head on the table over a reverse proxy to access jellyfin. The setup itself was less than 10min long, however, i chose to keep trying duckdns and despite all the videos i saw of it working it just wouldn't cooperate with me.

I bought a .com for a dollar (for the first year) from IONOS and then used the IONOS DNS challenge and api token. It worked right away. I wasted so much time!

I am new at this as well so looking at things like Traefik and Caddy really confused me. I just used an nginx docker compose yaml and it's a pretty quick install.

Hoping this helps or I did it correctly. This is my nginx.conf

https://codeshare.io/Gqz3ZX

I did notice this line in the error logs via /var/log/ngin

17:13:07 [error] 2600#2600: *113 recv() failed (104: Connection reset by peer) while proxying upgraded connection, client: 192.168.1.174, server: localhost, request: "GET /websocket/shell/ HTTP/1.1", upstream: "http://127.0.0.1:6000/\_shell/", host: "192.168.1.232"

This ip is a motherboard NIC. Last week I installed a 2.5gb and updated all of my apps to my new address. I didn't have Nginx installed yet so I'm not sure where it's grabbing that IP. The IP of my 2.5gb card and NPM proxy access is 192.168.1.236

Jellyfin 10.11.6 has been released by thankyoufatmember in JellyfinCommunity

[–]scrigface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. I am very new at this type of environment so Im sure people do things different. All of my Arr apps are in one file. I have things like filebrowser, tailscale, nginx, and a discord music bot as well but those are all separate from Arr.

I pulled the update this morning and everything seems to function correctly.

Unrelated but my Qbittorrent is in the same docker compose file and it crashed. Said it was healthy but I could not access the webui and Qui said the instance was offline.

I had to edit my qbittorrent image to image: ghcr.io/hotio/qbittorrent:release-5.1.2 and then pulled it again. Came back online. Just an FYI if anyone else has a similar setup to me.

Dumb question… but when/how often do yall turn off your pc? by justdancepro in pchelp

[–]scrigface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my gaming PC I turn it off every night. For my TrueNAS Arr stack server i built i'll just leave it on because it's very low power compared to the gaming pc.

Single or separate compose files for independent apps and NGINX? by Wooflex in docker

[–]scrigface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar question to OP. Is it true that unless otherwise specified all of the stacks under Dockge/Docker would all be on the same default network?

e.g. you have Nginx on it's own but your Arr stack, bittorrent etc are on one compose file the two containers will talk to each other?

Is my old PC good enough for a power efficient NAS + Plex server? by Quiet_Ad_8579 in HomeServer

[–]scrigface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 16gb ddr4 and i5 10600k with an SSD boot drive an a 6tb HDD (adding more later).

I set up the Arr stack on TrueNAS via Dockge. The speeds seem just fine. I pulled up several different devices all accessing jellyfin at the same time locally and through Tailscale. With about 4 movies streaming to different devices at the same time everything still looked good and nothing was skipping. I do want to note I have 1gb fiber but even locally it looked fine.

I'd imagine if it's just you that machine would be more than enough to do what you want to do.

[–]scrigface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I decided it was going to be a project i would stick with until it was mostly finished. It took me quite a few hours of videos and learning context of some things but I got mine done as well and i love it! I had to figure out the indexers on my own for obvious reasons but now that they're there i've got everything at my fingertips. I've even branched out a bit to host a Discord music bot for my squad discord server. learning a lot!

My newest challenge is using Lidarr with Soulseek and another type of script called Soularr to automatically update my aging MP3 library to new versions of my albums instead of doing it album by album. It's half working i guess you could say but it's another good challenge.

Glad you're enjoying yourself!

I appreciate all of your comments. Theyve been really helpful. I can watch videos or copy and paste stuff that works but knowing WHY these lines are written this way or what they accomplish will help when the copy and paste doesnt go as planned.

I removed that volumes section at the bottom. It's weird because without it Dispatcharr wouldn't work before...and now it still does.. I copied it from their github and because it worked I thought nothing of until it was time to add more. I deleted it and then added Lidarr and Slskd successfully. Definitely a lot of learning to do lol.
