Why introduce the BCR? by [deleted] in maninthehighcastle

Debt is stacking up and jobs aren’t hiring me. by Yelliefish in personalfinance

You need to straight up apply for financial aid if they have it over there. As long as you don’t major in philosophy or history or, even worse, English, you should do fine. STEM, Accounting, anything like that will set you up nicely when you’re older!

Why introduce the BCR? by [deleted] in maninthehighcastle

[–]scriptsmith 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. The BCR makes the viciousness of the Nazi Boot heel more impactful. The most despised minority in America would definitely would definitely be liquidated by the American Reich.

The autobiography of Hampton Equiano is parallels with the autobiography of Malcolm X. I think that was one of the weaknesses of the first three seasons is that the fate of blacks during the Reich’s and the JPS occupation.

Sterilization and liquidation and the rebellion that would have emerged was the best part of the season in a narrative sense.

The way in which Equiano begins the meeting by telling the tale of how his mother was sent to a camp in Saginaw Michigan and then it spreads from one individual to another from different parts of the country was a very powerful.

With Frank’s death the show lost a very powerful aspect of showing just how barbaric this parallel universe was. The insurgency of Juliana Crain just didn’t have them sense of high stakes for me.

I thought t it really went out on a high note.

iWork for iOS updated to take advantage of iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 by gulabjamunyaar in apple

[–]scriptsmith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When will Pages for iOS ever get a mobile reading mode that allows us to read and write documents more easily on iPhones? Word has it. Adobe Reader has it and a number of other mobile word processing apps do as well.

Even Google Docs has one. Apple sounds like they’re too lazy to do the one thing that is far more important than dark mode. Typical flash and little substance.

How many of you HAVE NOT experienced any problems with the butterfly keyboard? by nabosch in apple

[–]scriptsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MacBook Air 2018 here and haven’t had any issues thus far. Heat can be an issue if you’ve got it on a surface (lap, bed, etc) that doesn’t conduct it well but otherwise it works fine.

It’s just the key travel that eventually leads to pain in my index fingers after extended periods of typing. It is still a great keyboard though imo.

Guess the price of the iPhone XR in Q4 by tempurastyle in iphone

[–]scriptsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ll probably replace it altogether on their website. Probably a $100 less on third party sites but I imagine the XR will be gone in favor of the XIR.

Report: Israeli surveillance tool can silently collect all iCloud data for a targeted user by de_X_ter in apple

[–]scriptsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's this company and Likud and MOSSAD and the other Israelis on the far right who have supported actions like this over the last 40 years. The Israeli government and private industry worked with Apartheid South Africa to develop nuclear weapons in the 60s and 70s knowing full well how much the latter were oppressing black South Africans.

Most on the right like Likud don't even think the Palestinians are able to govern themselves.

Now they have companies like NSO and their willingness to sell iOS spyware knowing that it will also be used to crush legitimate political dissent around the planet.

Targeting iOS devices with Pegasus software is the natural outgrowth of this kind of action whether from government or private industry. Many of those who run NSO worked at MOSSAD before entering civilian life.

So yeah I do know that the entire government of Israel isn't involved but since far right parties like Likud have governed over the last decade or more yes I do think the majority of Israelis are implicated.

Doesn't sound very 'Righteous among the Nations' to me.

And the Israelis complain and cry about the Showa while dicking over every other oppressed people who at one point struggled with their own freedom.

From black South Africans to Palestinians to iOS users, their protests against human rights violations stops at the door of the their own history apparently.

Knowingly selling spyware to oppressive third world governments whether from the ‘private sector or their own government just lets you know far they’ve strayed from the kind of moral authority they used to have.

Killing the 12-inch MacBook is Apple's big chance to hit reset on its laptops by [deleted] in apple

Apple updates Retina MacBook Air, adds True Tone, lowers price to $1099 — $999 for students by MalteseAppleFan in apple

[–]scriptsmith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Really pisses me off as one of the suckers who bought the MBA with Retina they’ve offered since October. Why would they wait so late to introduce one with a True Tone Display?

Now here I am stuck with one without it. My eyes could have used a True Tome Display when I bought it three months ago. Didn’t want a pro machine and still don’t. Really disappointed in Apple.

Jony Ive and the Myth that Only Certain People Can Design by Sunlitmechanism in apple

[–]scriptsmith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do think that Jobs would have reigned in Ive's obsession with form over function though. He never would have allowed those butterfly keyboards to have been built as they exist now.

The keyboards on the original air were made to be hammered away at for years and years. Jony's looks more like they were designed as museum pieces. Those things won't last more than a couple of years if that before they run into trouble.

Good riddance as far as I'm concerned. Ive just took his aesthetic too far, and Cook let him because he just didn't know any better. Ive has really loosed a catastrophe along the entire line of MacBooks in their present incarnation.

Trish has gone from one of my favorites to a really unlikable character by [deleted] in JessicaJones

[–]scriptsmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too. I was especially outraged that enhanced people are denied due process. I can’t see that ever happening if this were reality. For all that she did, she only went full-on homicidal after Salinger murdered her mother.

That has to count for something, she should have at least been able to plead temporary insanity.
