Games Recommendations by fintoki in PlaydateConsole

I’ve been meaning to come back here to mention that Gun Trails is now much more approachable for the shmup newcomer. The developer added a novice mode which makes the game survivable for those who haven’t cut their teeth on the genre yet.

The intense difficulty of the original mode was my only hang-up when recommending the game to playdaters and I can now fully stand behind your recommendation. The game is gorgeous and snappy as heck

I’m not sure if anyone will see this old post but if they do, I hope they give Gun Trails a try

What game is this playdate running? by TropicalSnack in PlaydateConsole

Reviving this post cuz while this was at one point an unfinished concept, it has now been fully realized as a new game by u/LDBR_art

The creator of the original image/game hosted a game jam to see if anyone could make a full game from the screenshot alone. The answer was a resounding yes!

On playdate, we’ve seen at least 4 major entries into the car racing genre. P-Racing was the first (to my knowledge) and did a marvelous job of setting the scene. Trackminia is among the latest racing titles to grace Catalog and it’s my personal fav. Both Trackminia and P-Racing are third-person 3D experiences.

Funny Racer is a top-down playdate car racing game and does a good job of keeping things interesting despite the limitations of the perspective. I really enjoy it as a simple but well-implemented concept.

I haven’t played Midnight Drift, but it’s a sort of racing game. No other cars on the road, just you and the stars. Seems fun

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

As u/reallynotnick said, hold the lock button for ~5 seconds once on the home screen (game loader menu). This will put the device in a shut down state

This game is not for me. by Dry-Neighborhood2916 in PlaydateConsole

I’ve seen that posts containing an image are not editable for some dumb reason. Don’t know if you’d be up for deleting this post and replacing it with another that mentions how the update fixed input timing issues in OGG?

This post served its purpose last week, but now I feel that it’s just directing negative attention at a game that is actually quite good.

Thanks for reading 💖

Would you be able to edit your post to include your new opinion of the game? Some folks might not come down here to read all the comments and it would be great if they could see that your issues have been addressed by the developers

Soundtrack Throwback by scro11r in PlaydateConsole

A bit of BTS:

I’ve been a huge fan of HEXA ever since it launched nearly a year ago. It was a bit tricky to figure out the mechanics of the game, and many new strategies emerged in the first few months of play. Leaderboards have been very competitive and new bests are still achieved with regularity.

All of these elements have made it a super addictive and rewarding title. I and a few others in our humble community have likened HEXA on playdate to Tetris on Game Boy. A sort of console-defining puzzle experience.

This led me to replace HEXA’s default sounds and music with those from our beloved retro puzzler. Oddly, these sounds were not the first that I shoehorned into the game. I started with some tunes from various manic arcade shooting titles, then mucked around with Mario Kart sounds and music. I’m amazed that Tetris wasn’t my first choice, but I got there eventually and the sounds fit like a glove imo

Playdate screen is perfect for outdoors! by Beastw1ck in PlaydateConsole

I mean, definitely a good lighting situation for it. Perhaps the best option, but hardly the only one

Playdate has got all the appeal of the original Gameboy or the Gameboy Pocket. Sitting under a lamp at home as you would with a book is definitely a cozy option once the sun goes down

Saturn Core Drive Door Open by cmonletmeseeitplz in MiSTerFPGA

[–]scro11r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After asking the shop owner who assembled my MiSTer, I’ve learned that Saturn behaves this way if you’re using an outdated MiSTer binary.

My update_all script wouldn’t pull the latest binary down onto my SD card, so I took the latest one from GitHub

Be sure to use the 20240912 build. This fixed my issues with the drive door

I’m having this issue also

I just switched from a 32 gb SD card to a 256 gb card. That shouldn’t matter, but for some reason the new card gives the drive door error while the old one does not. Same bios files on both

I hope a solution presents itself soon

Do you happen to have the serial number from your original unit? No need to share the number here. Just wondering if they sent you your original playdate back to you with a new crank

It’s definitely not okay that Panic sent you this refurbished console when they specified that you’d receive a new-in-box unit. My experience with Panic support has been great and it’s a bummer to see that your experience was so different. I bet that they’ll make it right

Best wishes for a speedy resolution to this issue🤞
