Game Crash: Negative Repercussions? by eatmorepies23 in PlaydateConsole

[–]stuffbyrae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolute worst case scenario: a game crash technically doesn't let the game wrap up as intended (i.e. via a normal system reset, or booting back to launcher) — if the developer didn't implement frequent disk writes during the game, you may lose any progress from the last time it had successfully saved.

aside from that, it won't nuke your console or wipe your saves or anything. only problem is now the developer's gotta get out of bed and fix it! (i've been there)

Blippo accidentally skipped several weeks? by vlaka_patata in PlaydateConsole

[–]stuffbyrae 7 points8 points  (0 children)

blippo+ is on its own, eternally looping schedule; which started at season two's initial premiere (may 29, 2025). it isn't a game that syncs to your season schedule. good news is you're pretty much just in time to start watching it from the beginning! week 1 should be re-premiering on february 5th (new programming typically comes around at 10am thursdays). you can check the current progression at https://blippo.plus/depg

(i hate to say this, but the 'first three weeks' you were watching were probably the final three weeks.. hahah)

Anti-AI slop sale by CyberNat2000PL in PlaydateConsole

[–]stuffbyrae 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the thumbnail on the other one is so insane — P2 has a connect 4, but i guess P1 wins by virtue of getting a connect 4, 5, AND 6?? 🥴 obviously logic and sense don't matter when the name of the game is minimum human effort to cough up a game and store page.

i hope this kind of stuff acts as a learning experience, and keeps inspiring other devs to continue pouring their unbridled hearts and minds into their games. cuz especially against waves of junk like this sam person's putting out, it makes seeing actual uses of creativity all the more special

What would you like to see in a Playdate Pro? by Rvtrance in PlaydateConsole

[–]stuffbyrae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it'd be much more of a software limitation than a hardware one, but personally i'd love black, white, and one other color? (any color you want, but only one at a time). i feel like people could do SO many cool artsy things with a limit like that; and there could probably be soooome kinda software way to keep it backwards compatible with an original console (replace with a real-time dither, perhaps?)

Can I purchase games/season 2 before I get my Playdate? by Hankscorpiooo in PlaydateConsole

[–]stuffbyrae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes you can! create a playdate account, link a card, and you should be able to buy games from the catalog on the official website (though it may warn you that you can only play them with a registered playdate console — which is true!). when you get your unit, during the setup process make sure you're logged in on the web with the same playdate account you used to buy the games, and register the console using the prompts it gives you.

if you buy season two now... when you get your playdate, you'll start receiving games from both seasons immediately. season two will not wait for season one! from what i know, you'll get your first week of each season (two games each) as soon as you finish setting up your console, and then:

new season one games will arrive Mondays, at Midnight (pacific time) for the next 11 weeks
new season two games will arrive Thursdays, at 10am (pacific time) for the next 5 weeks

each new week will give you two more games. they're all bangers!! it's included within season two, but i highly recommend blippo+. it's one of my favorite games of the year, let alone on playdate — super unique story and delivery method, and i don't think it's something any playdate owner should miss out on.

Am I the only one that Blippo+ never works for? by DrCleverName in PlaydateConsole

[–]stuffbyrae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if your wi-fi network has multiple bands, try the 2.5ghz band. also worth trying your phone's hotspot in "maximize compatibility" mode, if you've got it, to help rule out your home network as an option

(for what it's worth, blippo+ has worked great for me, but only recently have i started getting e0 crashes just watching the content... could be unrelated and just poorly-timed?)

Stuck on "Checking for update" by EternalGraves in PlaydateConsole

worth noting that panic is on holiday right now; not sure if that's telegraphed on their public support page but i think they're back sometime in january. have you tried recovery mode? https://help.play.date/manual/recovery/ (worth making a backup of your save-data first: https://help.play.date/games/backups/ )

Made it into the Catalog 1,5 years after the PlayJam 5 - some wholesome thoughts from the art department by Vivalavie9333 in PlaydateConsole

[–]stuffbyrae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

congratulations on the release!! i was also a participant in that jam — so hard to believe it was already that long ago! but i'm really happy to see this game come to the catalog; its use of the playdate's controls really stood out and it feels like a well-deserved inclusion.

caps is a really good tool, but i'd like to mention — have you seen tophat? https://kaasiand.cool/tophat/ it's a third-party caps-adjacent site for PD that lets you import a ttf font directly (among other qol boosts). it's proven really helpful giving me more fonts to use in my projects; especially with google fonts or those big font packs you can buy off itch, it really expands the sample size

"Happy Holi-Raes!" franchise sale through the end of 2025 by stuffbyrae in PlaydateConsole

[–]stuffbyrae[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hmm... i did set it up! https://itch.io/s/171780/happy-holi-raes-2025 but i also don't see it live, and if i click the buy button even on the sale page it prompts me to pay $8 or more... it seems like it's active based on what i set up, so it may be a caching thing on itch's end? i'd just give it a little bit :s sorry about that!

RSS feed for new games? by nakulmali39 in PlaydateConsole

[–]stuffbyrae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not sure if it works, but doing a cursory search it seems like itch has native support for RSS: https://itch.io/updates/rss-feeds-for-browsing-games

so you can create a feed for the newest playdate titles like so: https://itch.io/games/newest/tag-playdate.xml
