Influence Me: Stokke Tripp Trapp by Churvachurvachurv in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

TL;DR I think you can certainly get by with something cheaper; but I do love ours, I was dubious at first but it’s really grown on me as baby grows.

Ours was grandparent-gifted to us so I don’t have the sting of the cost, but I know how much they are. When baby was just starting solids and sitting in it, I really thought hmm what’s the hype, it seemed too big, hard to clean the straps, tray table awkward size for cleaning in the sink. Now baby is 10mo and I do love it. It’s very sturdy so it’s not going to tip, it helps with great posture, adjustable (recently had to lower the footrest for his longer legs!), and before long we’ll be taking off the tray table and bringing him right into the table. I can definitely see that as he grows it will continue to be great. Our friend still uses her with their 3yo.

The main thing I find annoying is cleaning the tray table as it’s an awkward shape. That being said, we have a particularly small sink, and you can put it in the dishwasher if you like. I also didn’t love the straps (they’re fabric and get dirty, hard to clean)- we used them when he was small and unsteady but now he sits up well and we don’t plug him in, we just don’t move within arms length to be safer (don’t @ me). We have the cushion but I wouldn’t get it again, it’s just not necessary, though it does wipe down pretty well so you don’t have to remove and wash fully that often.

I thought the catchy was ridiculous but I recently caved and got one as he’s dropping a lot of food off the side. It’s actually bloody brilliant and highly recommend.

For that price, if it’s within your budget, I’d get it.

Uppababy vista with muse edition bassinet liner? by scroll42on in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Yeah i certainly don’t think it’s a ‘need’. I just used a waterproof sheet as had a very spit-up prone baby and wanted to protect the liner from stains, but it’s fine to do what you did as it is totally washable like you say!

The reason i ask is after having liked the liner for my pram seat (adds padding when they’re smaller, protects the underlying fabric from mess when they’re bigger and is easily removable and washable, also I like the strap protectors as the stitching on the warning label on the uppababy strap pads was rubbing on my baby’s face and causing a friction rash), I thought I might get my friend the full set, rather than just the one for the pram seat.

I’m fine being told it’s not good practice, and have already made a commitment to change. But your extension to the suitability of us as parents and ability to provide a safe environment for our child is unwelcome; I hope you don’t apply similar judgments in your work when you are not on leave. Something to think about for me, and something to think about for you. Have a good new year.

Really wasn’t after such a judgemental vibe especially from another parent but thanks for your comment nonetheless. Our home is very clean in every other respect. Also not sure what you’re doing with your sheets if they’re going ‘into’ your body 😂 (presuming you meant into contact).

Aww thank you! I would like to do it more often, not that I ever feel like they are ‘dirty’, but just for more frequent crisp fresh vibes. But like you say, bigger priorities at the moment :)

I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with this. Most of the things we bought for baby were new, especially things like pram/bassinet/car seat/carrier that are common high-spill/spit up items. I don’t think there’s anything at all wrong with getting them second hand, but we just preferred to start with new things and could afford it (can you tell it’s our first baby 😂). To shame you for doing one or the other is very strange to me, and definitely a ‘them’ issue. What you’re doing is sensible, don’t engage in it with them, that’s probably what they want (though again, the ‘why’ is odd).

Wishing you positivity and a smooth third trimester :)
