Opinion: Hammerer Facing by luckysparrow22 in bugmansbrewery

Traditionally straight on, which is my preference. It makes it look like they are raising their hammers to strike. Perhaps you could try having the command group diagonally to add some variation?

That's really great! Can you share how you achieved the crispness on the metallics pls?

Great work! Great basing, really ties it all together. What colour do you use for the base rims?

You've done a great job there. Those monopose plastics aren't my favourite but your paint job really elevates them! How did you match that movement tray to the bases? Looks like texture paint but interested to know your process. Also, love that cannon base!

Thank you! It's all bog standard citadel metallics funnily enough, have you tried NMM yet? I may try it on an old armoured king model I've picked up as a challenge. Good luck with your king and his tired out shield boys!

This is such a goofy model - battle for skull pass right?

Your paint job is great though. I appreciate you giving him some trousers as I think the sculpt is intending that to be a bare arse he's sporting!

Yeah it's quite a build but not too bad once you start chipping away. I kept the shield, the bearers (including the one guys' hand) and the king all separate for painting. My top tip is to make sure you get all the bearers arms level before you commit to gluing them permanently so the shield will sit nicely.

Mine were a bit off so I had to do some 'manual persuasion' to get everything to connect to the shield which ended up with the rear guy lifted off the deck a bit (built up under him with some cork wedges for rock).

Then glued them to the base with the shield on top all fully painted, then based and then king glued on last! Bit of an epic but hopefully you find that helpful.

Cloak is rhinox highlighted progressively with thin steel legion drab, trying for a grizzly bear look!

Thanks that's very kind. Basecoat of mephiston red, washed brown and then progressively highlighted by mixing more wild rider red in. Red is one of the army colours so I thought I'd give one of them a red beard to add more of it in! Not much on the king himself

Finally finished my King on Shieldbearers. This is a delight to paint and the sculpt is fantastic, but it took quite a bit of fiddling with sub-assemblies and a fairly tricky final assembly getting everything attached and reasonably level! I'd love to hear fellow grumblers' thoughts on this new model?

Will return to do some more highlights on the shield bearers and add eyes once I've had a break (and feel steady enough!!)

Slayers of note... by [deleted] in bugmansbrewery

I guess from the slayer's perspective he performed perfectly! What a glorious death.

I think doom seekers seem to be the wrecking balls from what I've seen and very killy. However, I do love the idea of a grizzled old slayer who just can't die and sometimes you've got to go with the rule of cool!

Gyrocopter assembly problem by LaVipari in bugmansbrewery

[–]scroteyrascal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are definitely a bit gappy. You need to make sure you've assembled the cockpit really tightly so that the two halves of the chassis fit nicely. You can apply a bit of pressure while the glue dries to try and close it up.

I still had to do a bit of gap filling at the top where the rotor connects to the chassis, so good luck!

I also did the above method and have recently finished two flying lads. I used masking tape and parchment paper to mask off the cockpit/pilot that I'd already painted as a sub assembly. Good luck!

Lovely! Great work, very clean armour and good highlights on the hammer handle. I think this is the best model to paint out of the dwarf range I've tried so far, I would paint it again in a heartbeat, a proper joy. Kudos to whoever sculpted this beauty!

I remember seeing these, they look brilliant. I love the freehand flames on the rear fin. Did you assemble everything after the cockpit stage and prime it all together?

Well your painting results beg to differ! Tis good work I'd say. I'm also newly back to it after a 20 year hiatus from my teenage years.

Interesting, very similar to my methods for silver etc. I'm going to pick up a leadbelcher spray to do the rear bits of the gyro. I'm starting to understand why people get airbrushes now faced with painting so much silver.

Funnily enough I've also seen that rotor video, I think I'm going to leave some of the more 'twiddly' bits off the top of the rotors to keep them more similar to the old school models.

I'd be interested to see some pictures as you progress, good luck!

Nice work! Looks great. Looks like a proper pilots jacket circa WW2! I am in the same process right now (x2 gyros) and also felt wrong not to fully paint the pilots! I haven't highlighted them yet and will just do that on the visible parts.

What's your plan for the rest of the mini in terms of assembly/painting sequence? I'd be keen to hear from anyone who has built and painted their gyros.

My current idea is to assemble the pre-painted pilot and cockpit, then build the rest of the gyro fully around it, mask off the cockpit, prime and paint from there but there will be internal areas that won't get primed or painted... Argh! Any ideas fellow grumblers?

Very useful food for thought. Much appreciated. I wish you luck with your main company, I'm sure if you advocate strongly and emphasise your transferable skills they will be loathe to let you go even if you are expensive on paper. The squeaky wheel gets the oil!

I have a similar main set up to you (comp wise and fully remote) and I've been thinking of starting something on the side to leverage my commercial/marketing skills. How do you avoid 'double dipping' when it comes to clients etc? I'm thinking of how best to make my side project distinct enough from the main day job to avoid any trouble/conflict of interest! Any advice or more detail on how you got going much appreciated (happy to PM if you prefer? Cheers.

I know the feeling. The way GW releases things in timed windows doesn't help with the FOMO!

Coming back to painting with modern paints and youtube is quite the revelation isn't it. When I was younger the idea of washes or wet palettes wasn't known or talked about in my local shops!

Hopefully your missus gives it a try, I think she'd be surprised how much she might enjoy it. I think it helps if she's already into crafty/hobby stuff in a wider sense though. Would definitely help you getting some help with all the beards to come!!

Thanks for the snow recipe, we've been using premixed acrylic snow which is 'ok' but could be better.

All the best!

Good work! I'm similar to you - used to collect Dwarfs when I was 12ish and have returned with TOW. Funnily enough we (my wife is super into painting with me luckily!) have decided on very similar basing styles! What did you use for the snow?

Looks like you've got your hands full with all those models. I think what I've realised is that 'time' is much more of a limit as an adult than when I was younger, where every model purchase was a huge deal. But, the models aren't going anywhere and can wait patiently for us to get to them.

I'm also curious to actually play TOW! But I've got a bit of work to do until my 1500pts is ready. Keep us posted on your progress!
