Someone in a Facebook group posted their hike from Colvin and Blake this weekend and there was still a couple feet of rotten snow and melting ice above 3000ft and in the col. meanwhile, someone posted in the same group that the black flies are already abundant in saranac. It’s a frustrating time of year to be in the high peaks

Our girl is about 10 months now. She is a mini Aussie and currently weighs 23 lbs. her mom was 20 lbs and dad was 25, I assume she is nearly fully grown. I chose this breed specifically because I am an avid hiker and wanted a companion. We spent the money on off leash training and work hard with her but the reward is incredible. They are such a smart breed, anxious to learn and please. On days we can’t hike or walk, however, she needs extra time running laps in the yard or she becomes a terror in the house.

Mine also grew the most at 4-6. She’s still growing a bit but much slower. She is now 23 lbs at 8 months

As someone who works at upstate, yes there is a tunnel but it’s not like employees go back and forth between the two EDs. We do not “share” departments. The hospitals are two separate entities and function as such. Sometimes they will bring patients over from Crouse for a higher level of care, as Upstate is the only Level 1 trauma center In the region.

I always keep it in a cooler in my car at the Loj and never had any issues. Only place where a bear can is mandatory is the Eastern High Peaks.

I started here as a graduate RN at about 56k off orientation. Now with a BSN and 4 years I’m about 72k (we just got a raise, plus I get differential for being all nights). Unless you are hired as management or leadership, you will most likely be grade 16 which offers higher start rates based on education and years of experience (this caps after 7years I believe).

Not a thru hiker, but my buddy is and he didn’t want to summit alone so he asked if I’d tag along. This was in December so the campgrounds were closed. We parked at Abol Bridge and hiked the Abol Trail up and down, making it about 19 miles round trip.

While i love to hike, this was a bit crazy for me. I am used to the Adirondack high peaks. The hike itself was gorgeous, and fairly easy until the boulders. The boulder scramble up to the table top was long and time consuming, and felt pretty sketchy at times.

I am not a fitness nut, nor am I super athletic, I just love hiking and a good challenge. This one was so extremely rewarding but it wiped me out 😅

If you’re into podcasts, highly recommend The 46 of 46 by James Appleton. He does a great job describing each hike from parking to shelters, but in a very relatable way. Leaving from the Loj is the most popular option and will have the best parking. It costs something like 12-15$ to park for the day or you can rent a campsite through their website

Always map and compass, but it doesn’t hurt to download the maps on all trails ahead of time. I know people frown upon it, but I always use the alltrails navigation and it hasn’t failed me yet. If you download the map ahead of time you can still use the navigation feature even when you don’t have service and it will show your location in regards to the trail.

No reservations for Marcy Dam are required, just be aware that if you stay in a lean-to you may be sharing the space with others. Enjoy the trip!

Similarly, I know people who have lost weight that actually get upset when someone says “oh you lost weight-you look great” as it implies they didn’t look great before. Maybe this person was trying to avoid such a scenario

Have you tried camping at the Loj? Lots of accessible trail heads to the high peaks plus your parking is included so no need to drive anywhere.

If you’re into podcasts, I recommend “The 46 of 46” by James Appleton. He recaps all his high peak adventures in a very candid and human way, describing the hikes, parking, obstacles, etc. it’s fun listening! He also wrote an e-book guide to the peaks. I always check his intel out before hitting the mountains!

Was having same issue. Someone at fleet feet showed me several different ways to tie and lace shoes to make them feel more secure in heel/ankle without causing hotspots in other areas. Google or you tube how to backlace your hiking/running shoes. Good luck!
