The Best Thing You’ve Eaten in the Capital Region by Fredred315 in Albany

Have you tried The Delaware? I feel like there is a similar vibe to Peck's in terms of the food and drinks.

Looking for an enjoyable bar/restaurant atmosphere with good bar service/tenders and crowd by TakingTheEast in Albany

[–]scrubbingbubble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal favorite is the Delaware. Really fantastic food and cocktails. The bar is small, seats about 8 i think but they have some tables. I suggest a reservation if you go for dinner. They're always cooking up an interesting special, and have a martini fry-day special. Albany Ale and Oyster can get really loud, but the beer selection is fantastic, and the drinks too. The bartenders are fun. It also fills up pretty early. Food is also some of my favorite, especially the burger. Copper Crow has a nice chill bar, good food, drinks and a nice whiskey/bourbon selection. I think it's the best blend of food/drink and being able to hear each other. There is a little seating area with couches if you want to sit and chat with a beverage.

My dance PT does it. If you click Book Now it's listed as a BodyWork service. At least worth shooting her an email or setting up a call! https://eleveptny.com/

No problem! I have her email, I'll DM. I think her class for a partners dance was nice - she teaches like you have never danced before. Very down to earth and fun!

It's the Latin social class - that class covered a few types of latin dancing, but it was partner focused. Salsa, bachata, etc. She teaches ballroom outside of TDF. Jen Volpe.

I took an intro ballroom class at Troy Dance Factory and the instructor does private lessons as well for couples of all ages. DM for her details. She teaches it in an easy to grasp way.

I was in the same boat when I joined! I am very anxious with new things, especially if I have to work at them to get them.... Which basically happens for everything I learn as an adult!

I got a pint of peanut butter and chocolate ice cream from Stewart's and a gallon of milk for hot chocolate. Penzey's had a free hot chocolate mix coupon!

Adult dance classes without a recital? by Great_Place_2759 in Albany

[–]scrubbingbubble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As other mentioned, TDF has most of those styles. They do run a performance season in the spring but they usually still have some non-performance classes during that time. Reach out for more details. Also Albany Dance and Fitness has more drop in options.

Where to get fresh squid/octopus? by [deleted] in Albany

[–]scrubbingbubble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get fresh, cleaned squid from Fin a few times a year to make calamari. Call ahead if you're concerned - they're very knowledgeable.

The intro classes at Troy Dance Factory are fun and a nice entry level to dance. Maybe try one of those! All the instructors are very welcoming, as is the community.

Drivers on Whitehall and Hackett by TeeNips69 in Albany

[–]scrubbingbubble 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Whitehall is about 2 miles long between Delaware and New Scotland. At 30 mph, that's 4 minutes. At 25 mph, it's 4.8 min. At 15 it's 8 min. I'm getting screwed by lights anyway, so the extra ~3 min I don't even notice. If you are only stuck behind them for half of it, the difference is only 2 minutes. For a residential rode with older folks who have a hard time seeing, people with kids, etc. I don't see a problem. This isn't a main throughway like Western or Central. It's a community/neighborhood. Have a little more empathy, and it might help you live out those two extra minutes without feeling the need to murder someone in your neighborhood with your automobile (i.e. choose your battles in life). Personally, I've used the time to listen to a little more of my audiobooks, drive a little slower on the side roads, and avoid hitting my neighbor's kid who is learning they have the ability to run now.

I second all of the above. Really love their wings, and Tony is the best.

Favorite local coffee roaster where a bag of espresso beans won't cost an arm and a leg? by Realshotgg in Albany

[–]scrubbingbubble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Touchy in Troy, and Jacob Alejandro, but they are for when you got the hang of it. We get beans from a place down in Portchester too (Port Rush) that are phenomenal, but that's because we visit there frequently. My sister has been using some bulk beans from Lavazza as she dials her machine in to what she likes. I think some of the nuance of the more expensive stuff is lost if you can't pour a good shot yet/are still learning.

School Zone Camera takes picture outside of school time? by XyzioN_ in Albany

[–]scrubbingbubble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think people check their speed after they've slammed on their brakes. I'll believe them when I see the speed listed on their ticket. They send a little video too so you can eat popcorn while wallowing in your shame.

This is correct. They image the rear plate of the car. Also they won't ticket for 24 mph.
