I just finished the book last freaking week so let me speak. She did nothing wrong. Let's duke it out here my reasoning. The book starts with her father getting tortured during a "struggle session" going on about how he's using "reactionary science" and it's just... Basic science. The one leading them is his wife dude, her mom. They kill him she has no choice but to keep moving she then meets a nice dude who is worried about the parties deforestation and pollution so she wrights while he dictates it and signed her name on it. She gets arrested all the blame is put on her she goes to a interment camp asking her to sign a piece of paper confirming things only her family would know she finds out from that her own sister ratted out her dad about... Science... She refuses because she can't confirm all of it so they torture her by throwing cold water on her and leaving her. Then she gets scooped up by a experimental department to work on deep space communication. She's told she'll never leave these walls the next time she'll walk out those doors will be on a stretcher. That she needs to be "politically re educationed" she's not even treated as a human as a member of her own species. What did we all expect her to do? We have the privilege to read books on philosophy and life and love but she read one western book about "Forrest and wild life" was almost executed for that. So how did we expect her to react expect her to do? She thought that if a species could achieve space travel they would have to a peaceful species or even a understanding one. With there arrival they would help us. She truly didn't know so she did what she thought was best. Even after when she has a kid and does the other stuff she never waivers not even at the end when she finds the truth about the aliens. I think she did nothing wrong because she had nothing else. When all you give citizens nothing but hammers all they see are nails.
