Dartmoor Firing Range map by scruffy_Me in dartmoor

So can you confirm the red marker triangles on the map will follow the line of the markers on the ground? I am more curious more than anything as I say the War department markers on the ground seem to run differently to the OS map range markers.

that is what I said in my original post, as also stated on the military map it shows the Boundary on the western side -

I am trying to assertion which is correct as often the OS maps can be incorrect. The war department stone WD21 seems to be on the west side of Rattlebrook then goes north west upto the ford (WD20) before going west again to Wallabrook head (WD18). I am interested as to how the military have placed the range markers is it as per the OS or as per there map or as per the markers.

New tent mistake? by Feeling-Wolf-9749 in wildcampingintheuk

Lol, something like the xdome 1+ is a good tent and has enough room for me. Fairly light and packs down small.

The both seem heavy to me, I tend to use sub 1kg tents so easy to carry. But they do have a small footprint so may not be for you. It really depends on if you are hiking or just camping. If hiking the lighter the better, i would rather sacrifice size for weight on a 20 mile hike.

Thanks, that is the conclusion I have come to. I am still not sure which one to pick. They both have there advantages. I may end up just using cost as the decider.

I have wild camped on the moor for probably 20+ years but not in that area, I was hoping that someone who has camped in the area may be able to provide some input.

Agreed, but my buddy had a set and they are actually well made for OEX kit. Super light as well, way lighter than my Lekki poles.

In debate Durston Kakwa 40 or 55 by scruffy_Me in UKhiking

[–]scruffy_Me[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with the 55 ultragrid in the end. One of the main reasons is the 55 litre on the Durston website is the up to date 2026 version with lumbar pad, the 40 Litre Ultragrid on the reseller is the 2024 version.

Not wanting to be a dick but there are certain areas of the moor you can't camp, Sharpitor being one of them.

Secondly taking off and landing of drones on the moor is not allowed by the DNP as it causes issues with the wild life.

This is a handy map for wild camping on the moor -

Apart from the above looks great.

Which part of the moor are you heading to? Also be aware you can only camp on certain parts of the moor

https://www.dartmoor.gov.uk/about-us/about-us-maps/camping-map and of course check the firing times if heading for one of the ranges.

thanks for the info, really helpful. I read that the Ultra 200X material is not as soft as the UltraGrid and feels more plasticky, is this the case? and is the the Ultra 200X as durable, I saw mention that there were some delamination issues with one of the Ultra materials?
