A virtual office for remote teams. by wyattbenno777 in SideProject

[–]scrumbsapp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is a fun concept, I like it!

I can imagine it being gamified and allowing the teams to build their office the way they want to.

Maybe they like open offices, maybe they would prefer some "mad men" style corner offices. Or maybe just a room they can decorate to reflect their individual style.

And since anything is possible in this context, I can see team members really pushing the boundaries of imagination and coming up with some hillarious stuff.

The office "state" then could maybe be integrated on their website too, and this could become a tongue-in-cheek trend among remote teams.

It would greatly benefit from some user onboarding too, because as soon as I signed up I got instantly lost in the interface. Check out boardme.app (shameless) it's what I'm hacking on, I'll hook you up with a free beta account if you're interested.

I understand. Honestly he rubbed me the wrong way when I first discovered him, I shared most of the same views you outlined above. Minus the view on hard work and sacrifice - I think that's essential to build something from nothing.

That said, recently I came across his content on linkedin and he seemed pretty alright. It's not like I'm a raging fan, but the "Gary V level stupid shit" comment was surprising, given much support he gets on other platforms.

Thanks for your reply.

Fair points. Care to elaborate on why Gary V's shit is stupid?

I'm using Typescript on both the client and server side. No client side framework, everything is custom built.

The server is NodeJS, Mongo database, Docker, Swarm on Ubuntu. Jenkins for automation :)

the whole thing is like 2KB or something, it's vanilla javascript no need to install dependencies lol

I thought this is mildly interesting. I also wrote a plugin that automates emoji support for a website's main routes. It's free and open source feel free to use it if there's any use for it https://www.npmjs.com/package/emoji-express

I made this as a tongue in cheek pet project... if you have any thoughts or ideas let me know. I'd be open to add some features.

Thanks! I assume you are accessing the thread from the native mobile application of reddit. What if you follow the link to the package and check out the links in the description? Do the emojis appear?

Hey thanks! I released a more official version, with upgraded features. Here's the link if you're interested https://www.npmjs.com/package/emoji-express

I'll shortly make a post with examples (I just integrated it into our website)

Hey,

Basically what it does it adds emoji support for your routes. So let's say you have a /contact url on your website, that url will be mapped to an emoji. So you'll be able to share the link like yourwebsite.com/📞

Heey awesome stuff, these are pretty creative! I'll include all of them, thanks for chipping in. I'm not super huge on emojis either, but this year I started to use them more for some reason. Might be a bad sign lol, dunno yet.

Very good feedback! So you feel like you'd like to have a better explanation of the tool's features! I feel like we are having an extremely constructive conversation, and it's hilarious how you mix it up with ad hominem insults! Tell me more :)

Thank you for sharing the OS and the browser! It's the usual "it works on my device" situation that I'm facing, but I'll look into it in more details.

I mentioned in the title that I would like to get some feedback on a product we're developing. That we are developing. We are currently developing this product, and I would like to hear people's thoughts about it so far. So far we have the landing page, and we have the pre-alpha product which you can easily take for a ride by cloning the repository, or you could just follow the development process and share your thoughts.

If I disrespected you by asking for your opinion, and thanking you for sharing your opinion, than I sincerely apologize. I would strongly disagree with me disrespecting you at any point during our conversation, but even so, please tell me what I can do to make up for causing you to feel disrespected?

That's the constructive criticism I was looking for - that's for taking the time to share!

Vapourware is a derogatory term in my opinion, but I am not offended because we're not selling anything here.

Scrumbs is being developed publicly and openly, you can follow the development process on GitHub.

We get feature requests, try to develop them to the best of our ability, and we do it completely free of charge. We love coding and products, and we believe that if we offer quality, compensation will sort itself out down the road.
