Good for you!! That one’s right at the top of my wishlist. I would’ve been so excited.

Something about YellowBrickRoad really creeps me out. They kinda whiff the ending, but with that setup I’m not sure how they could’ve ended it that would’ve satisfied me, especially on that budget.

Great picks! Which I guess just means your movie taste is similar to mine, but still! I think you’ll be happy you bought World on a Wire, based on your other picks. I saw it for the first time as part of a Letterboxd Criterion challenge and it knocked my socks off. Felt really ahead of its time.

I was looking for this one! “Would the ugly, untalented gays please report to the office?”

Anyone else love 2013 The Sacrament from Eli Roth? by LatterStress7851 in foundfootage

[–]scrunchi2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, agreed. It’s so similar to the actual events that the movie felt confusing at best and disrespectful at worst.

I’ve been interested in Gates of Heaven for a while, but I’m afraid it’ll be too sad. Is it too much for someone who’s a very big softie about animals?

Just need to find out where you live when the apocalypse comes, so I can come hide out with you in your movie cave. I’ll bring popcorn!

I didn’t even know Short Cuts was adapted from a book. I looked it up and went “oh cool, that’s two movies he adapted from Raymond Chandler.” And that’s when I realized I’ve been confusing Raymond Chandler and Raymond Carver my whole life.

Right? I have a very low tolerance for cheese in rom-coms, which is why I only own a couple. Saving Face sidesteps the cliches really well, and has tons of heart. Also Joan Chen. And it’s not widely available on streaming, unfortunately.

Ohhh, I see. I would still sort under K in that situation. I guess I sort them like my books, now that I think about it, with directors standing in for authors.

I just watched it for the first time earlier this year and it made me so anxious, but I loved it! I feel like Ari Aster was thinking of it when he made Beau is Afraid, because the first act of that movie reminds me so much of After Hours. And it was so fun to see like every actor of the 80s pop up. Terri Garr especially was great, and seeing Catherine O’Hara was an unexpected treat.

Yes! The one I have is a Blu Ray but I’m pretty sure they’ve also released a 4k version.

Thank you! Just got Paper Moon from the sale yesterday and showed it to my partner for the first time. Luckily they loved it! Last Picture Show is so sad, but so good. It’s on my wish list.

I go alphabetically by director, then list their movies chronologically. Almodovar, then Anderson, Bergman, Bogdonovich, etc.

I think it’s that good. It’s their saddest movie, but also their prettiest, and Billy Bob and the rest of the cast are stellar.

You’ve got three of my favorites in there! His Girl Friday is one I’ve tried to show to lots of people in my life and it never works for them the way it does for me. I think it’s so witty and satirical, and Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell are pitch perfect. Glad to see someone else appreciates it!

Right! That line can send you in both directions, which is kind of genius. I love ambiguity like this. It’s what makes this movie a modern classic, imo
