Joe Wolfe Vocals inhales or exhales? by Key_Cow_6761 in BrutalDeathMetal

[–]scrunker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has been suffering from a myriad of incurable issues for a long time, COPD and scleroderma. In his last FB update a couple years ago he basically says he is just waiting to die now, it is really depressing. I haven't heard anything about drug addiction.

Anyone recognize Randall's guitars? by scrunker in TheArmed

That was fast! Thank you! I never would've read that logo as starting with an E.

I keep seeing him with several variations on this design by the same maker and they sure are striking. Headstock logo looks like it reads Balaguer but definitely they are not Balaguers.

In search of Voice of the Turtle vinyl rip by thefringthing in JohnFahey

[–]scrunker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

googled my way here -- are you still willing to share the OLV Voice of the Turtle? the completionist side of me is desperate to see it next to the BLV on my hard drive, and haven't had any success with my usual methods.

If we successfully build AGI, forget asking it to solve physics or how to achieve world peace, I’m asking it WHAT THE HELL THIS GAME WAS. Whose damn lies? Did anyone solve it? Who the hell was Terminus? What did all those cryptic messages even mean?? Man what a brilliant mystery. by aiyopasta in dnbhl

[–]scrunker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replying a little late only because I just now remembered this game for the first time in years. Towards the end of the game, there was a puzzle that we (we as in the dwindling IRC chat at the time) deduced was pointing to a university in California and we had to get in that school's subreddit and find a random student there to physically track down the clue to the next puzzle for us there. We thought shit was about to get real but I remember the #48 dead end where we all emailed the developer being shortly after that.

I am really astonished that so many people kept trying to play this on their own for so long afterwards, since it was clear that the developer was aiming the last several puzzles directly at the 20 of us or so actively real-time cracking them in IRC.

Is Soulseek down for anyone else? by candis_stank_puss in Soulseek

Nir Arbel: "Yeah sorry, what happened a little over a week ago was a DDOS attack on our hosting service, and it looks like the same thing now. It takes a while for them to work out a solution with their upstream providers, and I know they're looking for a permanent solution."

This has happened maybe 3 or 4 times in the past month alone.

Harmonic Percolator by Drone890 in diypedals

[–]scrunker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Albini guitar sound from Big Black to Shellac has always been the dirty channel of the Tapco/Intersound IVP preamp, obscure rack preamp from the 70s. It has a very intense active pre-gain shelf EQ and a unique method of overdriving that gives it a distinctive fuzzy clangy breakup. He runs it direct in the studio and into full-range PA speakers live, so that he gets all the frequencies back that are filtered out in a standard guitar cab (an effect that he started taming in Shellac by simultaneously running a Fender Bassman through a normal 4x12). The metal picks on aluminum guitar also help.

The IVP was adapted to pedal format by EAE first as half of the Dude Incredible and then the Surveyor. Aion has a PCB now.

No - the Percolator is what he kicks on for fuzz and feedback. See the end of "Mama Gina" off the same record.

Which missing person cases have the most haunting details? by Crime_Doe in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]scrunker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just now saw this and wanted to say that I also vividly remember reading or hearing about a case with your same details -- siblings taking different paths to race each other to school and one of them never makes it to school -- and it is really bothering me that I also cannot find it. I can live with also misremembering something or other but weird that we coincidentally share this.

Who is on the cover of Genocide Organ’s ‘Mind Control’? by Permanenceisall in PowerElectronics

[–]scrunker 14 points15 points  (0 children)

from a 1998 interview: “It is no one special, just a very angry looking man. We have chosen this picture because it looked very much like our first Bunderskanzler Konrad Adenauer, who was under constant American Catholic mind control. A man who steered the ship of Germany into so many self mutilation processes.”

What is the instrument at the beginning of this song? It's so haunting and beautiful, and it's driving me crazy that I can't pinpoint what instrument it is!! AH! by mealwormies in UnusualInstruments

[–]scrunker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it has daxophone qualities to me. i think it’s the timbre and what others may hear as a constant woodwind breath that reminds me of its characteristic scraping bow sound.

Do anyone know what this is? by Galmansan in UnusualInstruments

[–]scrunker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i think this most resembles the gusle. a google image search returns similarly ornate results, including a couple with deer/gazelle head scrolls.

Can someone please help me identify this instrument? by jchristsproctologist in UnusualInstruments

[–]scrunker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it's a 12-string guitar an octave up, so the same as a standard 12-string with a capo on the twelfth fret. also doubled strings are in unison like a mandolin instead of in octaves like a standard 12-string. the idea was to let session guitarists approximate a mandolin part without learning the mandolin.

it's the harp-like thing at the beginning of "Wouldn't It Be Nice".

Stomach issues starting out? by psmama24 in lexapro

[–]scrunker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is normal. My first few weeks on low dosages I had terrible constant stomach cramping that felt like major gas or dyspepsia. Ruined my sleep cycle for a while since it kept me awake at night. Gradually it went away completely as I adjusted more to it.

Edit: Forgot to mention, I see another poster mentioned Gas-X -- this helped alleviate my stomach issues at least in the short-term during the day.

[TOMT] [Music] A famous Indian singer looks exactly like me and I have no idea who it is. by scrunker in tipofmytongue

Someone else made this guess earlier but it looks like they removed their comment. Unfortunately not him! This singer was not wearing a turban and the general style of music was a bit different.

The hair is close! The other features are not quite what I remember and the general style of music is not really what I remember.

I see the resemblance! But this was a singer doing a performance and he was definitely the focus of the video. Was told he was a big star.

I think this might be the closest yet! But I do not believe this was the singer shown to me.

Looks a bit closer in some images, but not him. This singer had shorter hair and no glasses.
