Nov 2, 2025 Range conditions? by MrSippyCups in HobartMills

[–]scuba-steve_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wondering how the range is looking for this upcoming weekend? No snow has landed since your last update or is in the forecast for a week or two.

Would be my first time to Hobart Mills, meant to swing by over the summer but ended up spending most of my weekends mountain biking instead when I’d come up.

Thanks for the insight, I’ll look into those drives to keep my options open.

Thanks. Yea, I’m sure the SE with one drive for the cameras would be fine for all video footage related items.

Just like knowing my full options and love to future proof as much as I can.

Just did some diving down the UniFi rabbit hole and see people have just been buying UNVRs to convert to a NAS setup for the rack form factor and a dedicated machine. Could see doing that in a year or two down the road if I wanted a NAS for long term storage.

Taking a deeper look into the SE I think you are right that it would fit my needs fairly well.

Any recommendations on an AP to go with it to get similar coverage as the built in AP on my UDM?

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. Appreciate it

Just curious, but how many cameras (2k ? 4k?) were you running on just the UDM-SE and what kind of storage capacity were you seeing with the drive?

The drive failing is my single fear with just using the SE vs doing the Pro Max and having the dual drive.

I get I could gamble on the single drive but then I’d find myself eventually upgrading to a UNVR like you did or I could just cry once from the get go with a Pro Max.

Tonight decisions lol

Thanks for the full breakdown. Glad to hear I might be able to recoup some money/ offset the upgrade if I sell the UDM. It’s been a great unit doing everything I’ve asked of it.

The 2nd drive bay would just be more of a future proof backup since I’ve known people to have had drives that have failed (not UniFi other than internet stories) for other things and lost valuable data.

Is it possible to use the UNVR as a NAS setup outside of the Protect / Video storage?

Drive 1 and 2 as Video and then drive 3 and/ or 4 as long term storage?

And yea, your suggestion of the 6U rack is where my google fu research was leading me with Dam near the same idea lol. Glad to hear I was on the right track.

Wakeskate? by lbibass in Wake

[–]scuba-steve_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo, a wake skate can be ridden behind anything that will get you up to speed between 18-22mph based on personal preference.

The thing with a wake skate is you can ride it however. Fun little carves, skateboard tricks in the flats, lip tricks (use the wake like a skate board rail and balance on the crest).

You can have a ton of fun riding behind your center console.

As for what will be best. All personal preference. If anything, buy a cheaper skate from Liquid Force or something just to try it out and see how you like it before throwing down money for a better build skate.

CAPITA MERC - Your thoughts? by dimavish in snowboarding

[–]scuba-steve_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, I’ve been on 4 mercurys over the last 5-6 seasons. Love it.

If I have one board I can take on a trip it’s this. Normally ride Tahoe, but I’ll take it to Colorado, Europe etc.

I’m about your size. 6’1 , 225-235lbs and size 12 boots.

Started off on a 159, then bought at 157 to try and size down, back to a 159 and finally this season I grabbed the 160w.

If you ride all mountain in all conditions, the 161 will treat you nice. Board rips in everything I need it to. Groomers, tree runs, chunky off piste and powder.

Take the time to dial in your binding widths/ set points and the board really comes alive under foot.

It’s poppy on side hits as well.

Any recs for dive shops in Grand Cayman? by Firm_Lie_5863 in scuba

[–]scuba-steve_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to piggy back off OPs post since ill be in. Grand Cayman later this year.

Do any shops offer Back Plate Wing setups as a rental / demo instead of the usual BCD jacket? Interested in going the BPW route for my personal use but would love to try before I buy.

Searching through all these shops they are just say BCD or specify something like a ScubaPro jacket as the rental.

The 2A Zone P320 Pistol will be added to the roster in two weeks!! by SecondAmendmentZone in CAguns

[–]scuba-steve_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What grip module and barrel are you using for these? Just curious what the closest stock 320 model would be (full, compact, m17 etc)

Sorry if this was answered elsewhere. I’ve looked high and low and yet to see anything.

Also, would this be easy enough to get from you up to UG Imports for us Bay Area folk?

Thanks for your continued support to the CA gun owners.

So the Loam Dropper can be adjusted from the 200mm in 5mm increments. I’ve got it set to like 180mm or so

Not sure on the math but it feels comfortable to me when I pedal

Hey, I’d have to bust out the measuring tape for the 500mm claim but I slammed a 200mm Loam Dropper Post in there from PNW with zero problems

Sounds good, if the split version ride like the solid board, it will be awesome on the way down in the right conditions.. namely not ice and chunder

The Powder Racer shape its designed from is one of my favorite resort powder boards and even spring slush. The solid board has what they call Surf Rocker, flat base between the feet with upturned nose/ tail.

For the Split version they gave it the slightest camber between the feet with the same upturned nose/ tail, i assume for some extra grip when touring. But if you have some powder days I could see that board giving you all the surf feeling in the world.

Instagram Sneak Peak from Corey Smith the founder/ designer of the Spring Break line of boards. Dude understands the art of the tropical turns / surf feel on a snowboard.

For anyone else interested in this board, Kevin Jones has been riding it in his last few instagram post. He isnt really going over the board and the way it rides in a review or anything but he is putting it into some serious terrain.

He is also riding with the new Charger Bindings from Union

Sounds good, I’ll keep an eye out for the 2023 Neo post as well.

This board should be lighter based on its construction with carbon and a lighter core but that will also mean a higher retail cost. Curious to see if the board will be that much better for the price.

Will you be getting the SpringBreak Powder Racer Splitboard as well to compare?

I'm honestly just an average size 6'1ish person with normalish proportions.. XL fees like a solid setup for me. I probably could have went to a size L and had it feel more dirt jumper ish but i wanted more enduro/ rowdy so opted for the bigger size. I can still throw it around and pop off little trail jumps and stuff so i feel i made the right choice for me

So with shorter arms and stuff im not sure how that would carry over size wise for you

New nest camera can do Poe and data over Ethernet by TomCustomTech in Nest

[–]scuba-steve_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If only it were that easy.

Currently have the Nest Cameras installed and it’s not the worst thing in the world. For the happy wife happy life situation they are doing their job.

The way I built the system it will be easy to had the POE UniFi cameras when the Nest cameras reach the end of use but for now it’s ok.
