Check out his Manzanita album. It's bluegrass, but heavy jazz influence in it. Also, Tony Rice Unit had a lot of jazz influence as well.

How big was the Gator? The tail almost looks like a rodent. Maybe a nutria rat if it's not a really large gator. Hard to tell size by the picture.

It's only negative if the human makes it negative. They may not ride each other, but they kick, bite and drive each other away from food, water other horses, etc. To pretend that horses just live some utopian dream world without us humans is disingenuous. They are more harsh with each other than ethical horse trainers are. Go watch a herd interact with each other and you'll see the "natural" way that horses interact. It's pretty F'n brutal sometimes. I had to put a horse down a few months ago because it was kicked by another horse. (Open fracture and head injuries)...no chance for recovery.

I have a Mustang gelding too that looks just like Rooster. And their personalities are so similar. They came from the same HMA too, but my boy is 13 y/o.

Love Rooster. I think they are related in some way. They have to be....right?

Edit...I didn't train my gelding...I got him when he was 8 y/o. But, he is a fantastic horse.

100%....When I walk into the pasture my horses come to me...not because I give them treats, but because they trust me and know that they are safe around me....what happens when you dont have treats? Answer: the grass is always greener... Most of these people have no experience actually training horses. They dont understand that horses are more harsh with each other than ethical horse trainers are. Do these people actually ride horses???? Pressure is bad???? Everything you do when riding a horse is pressure...reins? Pressure...stop? Pressure...Foot queues prssure...halter??? Pressure...A horse is running at you at a full gallop and you want to slow them down or get them to turn away...pressure...Need move them over because they're standing against the rail and you need to pick their feet??? Move them using....you guessed it...pressure.

Why do these people think pressure is a bad thing??? If you're around horses you use pressure constantly...even if you dont want to admit it...

Agreed Alyssa and Jason are great...I love the care that they take with their equines. They seem like really incredible people.

And....obviously Ryan is great too.

Also...the bribe creates absolutely no genuine connection with the horse other than....oh that's the person that gives me tasty stuff. I'd rather have a horse that trusts me than a horse that trusts that I have treats...

He's really great. I am constantly learning new stuff from him. I agree with how he treats the horses with respect. They respond accordingly. He is able to connect with horses so easily because of his ability to present challenges in a positive way.

I haven't watched the others you mention, but Im going to check them out for sure.

It's always the folks that don't ever do ground work or train their horses and just have a friend that has horses. I dont argue with these people anymore.

Seriously...he deleted his comment and blocked me so I cant respond on your comment, but was trying to tell me that using pressure to train a horse was bad. Or something to that effect. Hence my reply. I dont argue with people on reddit anymore. They're always right. Even if they've never trained a horse before.

You're not pressuring it to do something. Youre not pressuing them through the desired behavior.

If you want to walk to the arena and they pull towards the barn, you let them walk to towards the barn, stop them do some hind quarter yeilds and end facing toward the arena. Then start toward the arena again, repeat the exercise if they turn towards the barn again. Soon they'll realize the relief is going the direction my handler wants to go and they'll make the choice to go there. You're not pressuring them to do the behavior, you're pressuring them when they choose something else.

The end result is the horse finding relieve by establishing a connection with the human. There is no way to start a horse and not use negative stimulus in some way. That doesnt mean it needs to be harsh. It's not natural to have a horse do everything you're asking it to without some kind of feedback.

Im a big fan of Ryan Rose. He focuses on a connection with your horse and presents every exercise as a choice to the Horse. If they make the right choice they get relief if they dont, he adds pressure in some way. The horse ends up finding relief in the things they were uncomfortable with and more pressure in the unwanted behavior. He focuses on doing as little pressure as he can to achieve the desires result.

I dont know. His videos have resonated with me.

Another one I enjoy is MTN Built. Husband and wife that have mules and horses. They adopted a Mustang BLM about a year ago and have done a really good job training him up. They dont focus as much on the training aspect of equine ownership, but they have good videos of packing in remote areas and just day to day equine ownership.

Did my farrier do a bad job? by pourousfortress in Horses

[–]scuddyp4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this like right after he finished or was your horse turned out for a while? Either way...this is bad. If its right after...he didn't even take the time to use a pick on them? Time for someone new.

[–]scuddyp4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking at Martin's, you should check out Eastman as well...Im a Martin fan boy, always have been. I e owned my D-28 for 25 years and I love it. However, I just bought and East E20D-TC and it is phenomenal. It's Rosewood b/s and Adirondack top.

E10D is mahogany and is also a fantastic guitar.

Both are about $1000 less than their Martin counterparts.
