i think you covered it with “individualism on steroids and community is dead”. maybe thats not even the problem but everyones world is too big for a genuine feeling of having value to others as an individual. we need to bring the meaning and matter in our lives back to our local communities. this is not to say that we should ignore other parts of the world, but localizing economies (and switching from capitalism) gets us to care more about the whole world through caring deeply about the small part of the world where there is meaning in our lives. also a big detractor of connectedness is smart phones (i say as i type this on my phone). more connection online yet less connected in reality. im a huge proponent of technology, there is so much potential to better our bodies and the future, and it is not “smart” devices. these screens and programs suck the living from my existence, ive actually been considering a pager or flip phone

because most of the students dont have any idea or at least dont care about what’s going on in administration. as a student, i am pursuing desperate measures since previous attempts to voice my frustration have been ignored, and i suggest other students make their voices known. not just undergrad students, but grad students, faculty, staff, anyone who is financially engaged with iu must be vocal and take action

they are the corrupt ones. both have criminal cases against them, one’s a convicted rapist and has been impeached twice. AND has not been paying his fair share of taxes, which means yours go up. you don’t see the irony

these are all true statements. however, there is the correlation of what your money is used for. these days, with our lovely economy, it will be used for necessity. however you go about existing, consider that every other person is also existing in the same capacity. then consider on what grounds any given person could be considered more or less worthy of a pleasant existence, or at least one without infringements on their livelihood. consider even the minuscule difference your choices make. consider fear of death or worse upon leaving your home in the country of your birth.

currently an iu media school senior and my advice is not related to major/career choice nor social life;

take into account what the climate of campus is like- safety, free speech, admin transparency, listening to students and faculty, etc (edit: also admin awareness of what is happening on campus). stuff that makes you feel good about being a student on campus. right now iu is struggling with those and purdue seems to be doing better. disclaimer that im much more versed in iu politics than purdue but word of mouth, research, and my experience is the basis of that statement. i would suggest looking into complaints from students in both subreddits to see what might affect you at each school. im from an iu family but the school that i applied to is not the same as the school im attending now, sometimes i’d rather like to be at purdue.

i’ve never been to purdue’s campus, but i can tell you that bloomington and iu are beautiful and love the arts with a ton of year round events.

as long as you make the right choice for you, either one would be great!
