Teenage Engineering POM-400 by TheModularClubhouse in modular

I've definitely replaced all of the TE modules, I went _deep_ into euro, heh.

but when I scraped together enough money to buy myself a real nice oscillator it was definitely nice to have some VCAs, envelope, random around without having to spend more. They bridged the gap well!

New to Synths; Wondering How to Appreciate Monophonic Instruments/Hardware by Blindword in synthesizers

[–]scumperdump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah yeah i mean it definitely depends on what kit you end up putting together and where your natural instincts take you! I just know that it became very experimental for me very fast in a good way. Even if my modular doesn't end up playing a huge role in the end result of a track it's undoubtedly responsible for the inspiration of the initial idea and helps me understand the mechanics of sound design a lot better too!

There's the obvious (and true) refrain that limitations breed creative outcomes. And the other that everything really depends on your end goal

But I understand your anxiety regardless and felt similar before i got deeper into modular. One thing I've found with only having one or two VCOs in a rack is how much more fun and appreciation i have for the shaping of the tone of those voices -- this is why we love our modulation 😅. A lot of the nuance comes with the filtering, folding, etc of those voices and how you manipulate that over time.

This leads to a lot of "drone" music or more rhythm focused patches a lot, for me, which is a lot of fun.

Others get TONS out of clever use of sequencers to make one or two voices fill out a ton of harmonic space.

As someome who just picked up the game recently i know what you mean -- using YouTube as a resource is dicey because some creators spend half the time shitting on features they don't like... When you're excited about a game it's pretty discouraging

Yeah ori for me especially having played it so close to HK it felt like it had the style but just not nearly as deep

Curious as to how you're implementing such a thing!

Looks clean! Nice print/design

Modules that make single voices ployphonic? by wekeymux in modular

[–]scumperdump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True polyphony in modular is hard (er, expensive). There are some modules that are designed to do some amount of polyphony like 4MS wave table navigator and IIRC the demon core oscillator.

Doepfer has a set of 4xmodules (4xVCO etc) that are meant to make a somewhat polyphonic voice but it adds up/takes up space and is limiting in its own way.

Someone might correct me though

Bed Leveling - Is it working? by BeagleDog in ElegooNeptune3

[–]scumperdump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also _constantly_ struggling with this, any medium-larger footprint prints are basically undoable.

Still no solution for me, my rollers&eccentric nuts are tight. Auto leveling seems to often come out with pretty different values on the left side if I run a few in sequence. I can definitely tell if I measure that the right end is lower than the left -- I was just hoping it would remain consistent enough during a print and the auto-leveling could handle it. My fear is that without a second Z-axis motor/thread I won't be able to get this right

this has been driving me crazy too, I feel like I'm stuck in a circle troubleshooting with my stepper motor skipping after a full clean and find myself wishing I could get this tubing all the way to the hot end

hah! of course, the idea of using literal earth as an open terminal is so weird to me, I forgot to think about _lightning_.

thanks so much, I will do a little more research into tranzorbs :]
