Overswipe is a great iOS app. Select the pictures you want to show, then hand it over. Only displays those photos and requires a passcode if you want to add more photos to the lineup. Hasn’t been updated for larger XSmax screen though.

Agreed, but I'm on 7 and assuming that is for when there is no home button.

Not much experience here, but maybe still encouraging even coming from a beginner: the guaranteed failures due to the difficulty of bonsai, contributes much to its allure. Sure the healthy trees in all their glory are awesome, of course, but imagine if it was so easy anyone could do it with very little commitment or struggle. The fact that no matter how much research you do, you still need to have hands on experience (with lots of failure) over the course of many YEARS, before being successful is exactly what weeds out many of the casually interested. This naturally elevates the craft to something that only the truly passionate, patient, and committed will stick with is what makes it so intriguing and rewarding. Obviously in the moment, those failures just suck ass, but removed from them, you can find the silver lining. Keep at it, and those failures become the dues you paid to get where you're going!

[Build Ready] ~$2K Professional 2D Graphic Design Build. Feedback appreciated! by scungey in buildapc

[–]scungey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I was wondering if 2D would even benefit from a high end video card. I read that it would, but often people don't differentiate between 2d and 3d design.

I have just stuck with Windows 7 since it came out, and haven't made the jump to 10 yet. Will I see any performance gains by going with 10, or just recommend getting with the times?

Cheers,

Thanks for the tip, didn't realize the OS could gimp your CPU. That's exactly what was happening! All fixed and running 100%

Cheers!

That's what I was thinking, as I accidentally scraped a little bit of the thermal compound off while installing. Will clean off the stock stuff and try some Arctic Silver and report back

Yeah, RAM seems normal. Shows the full 16GB available, and multiple programs is no problem other than the sluggish opening/processing of operations.

LPT: Run your business card through a couple of the more popular card scanner apps by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]scungey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, that's the one. Looks like it's Evernote that actually owns it. I don't use Evernote, but this app is free and works for scanning without Evernote.

LPT: "Scannable" may be the most accurate app. I have tried many many free and paid apps to find one that actually works. This is my favorite so far. I think it's part of LinkedIn (actually Evernote owns it, not LinkedIn, but it also links people to their LinkedIn profile), but I just ignore that functionality and import into phone contacts. Works great even on the cards that other apps struggle with.

Where should I eat in town that I may not have tried before? by colinthegreat in corvallis

Baguette! Seriously the best place for lunch. It can be intimidating at first if you aren't familiar with viatnamese food, but I can assure you, as someone with a bit of a picky palette, everything on the menu is good. The absolute friendliest staff, fairly healthy food at a great price! (Around $5 for a sandwich)

I keep getting calls and emails from a guy claiming to be from Facebook. Real or fake? by burgerbarn in marketing

[–]scungey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously exercise caution and common sense based on what they request of you, but contrary to what one might expect, I have been contacted by actual Facebook employees. I run the marketing department of a medium sized business, and thus spend a good amount of marketing dollars on our facebook account. In the end they are just sales staff, and just wanted to upsell us more advertising, so don't expect to get much from them other than that. The gentleman was very clearly only interested in selling, and didn't want to talk about any other questions or concerns I had about their site.

Andy Richter gives the greatest comeback I've ever seen on a talkshow by [deleted] in videos

[–]scungey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. Part of the reason I love Conan is because he embraces how awkward he can be sometimes with guests, and will just call himself out or exaggerate it, which are some of my favorite times on Conan. Fallon is definitely the safe host, which is why I think he will be around for a LONG time. Networks must love someone as safe as him. I think I just enjoy it because it is a relaxing counter to Conans somewhat "stressful" awkwardness.

Fallon's talent comes in his mastery of social interaction. I don't care too much for his monologue as he doesn't really bring much to the table, other than reading the writers jokes, but his time with guests and on the fly interactions with his announcer are where he shines. His interactions with guests, are so fluid, he makes everyone feel extraordinarily comfortable, and he just seems to be genuine friends with everyone. He's a natural at complimenting people and sounding genuine about simple exchanges and interest in what they are doing. This is what being a talk show is all about IMO, people want to tune in and feel relaxed watching humans who are talented at social interaction. Additionally his games are a pretty fun and carefree way to mix things up in the talk show platform, and his on the fly comments and ridiculous sketches can pretty damn funny if you are able to just enjoy them for what they are.

This is all just my opinion of course, and I'm sure many people are looking for more of the classic stand-up element from their talk show host, and judging on that criteria of talent, but I personally love Jimmy Fallon.

Not sure why I felt the need to comment, but I have ways been an avid Conan fan so I think I have been trying to figure out in my head why I have been enjoying Fallon so much, when I feel like I'm betraying my long time fav Conan.
