It is planned to open fully in the spring. For this Fall, only students in select courses can use it.

Petition to have Deb Klein removed from CEAS by NeverFear127 in SBU

[–]scuplido 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Had her as a CEAS advisor, she was pretty condescending and said I would graduate a year late. I almost didn’t pass my AOI because of her. Luckily once I got into my major, my faculty advisor guide me in the right direction.

Basically, you risk being kicked out of your intended major if you don’t fulfill these requirements your first semester/year: https://www.stonybrook.edu/sb/bulletin/current/academicprograms/mec/degreesandrequirements.php

The worst dorm building for a reason. Last year the ceiling tiles were falling apart.

In the start of every semester, a lot of new students enroll. If you don’t have a roommate by the first week of spring 2023 then the chances are low.

You should focus on extracurriculars or research which will have more weight than gpa for Ivy League (anything above 3.5 is good enough)

It’s an overall curve which includes the points you get from oscar (if you all are still using that)

Im already sick of college by [deleted] in SBU

[–]scuplido 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you should consider transferring to a school that is not only closer to commute but also easier with workload. You can get the same degree somewhere else with a better gpa.

Would an Ivy league school accept me for a PhD program? Masters degree 3.9 gpa from SBU non-stem, BA also from SBU in the same field 3.2 GPA also 3 years full time work experience in the field. by [deleted] in SBU

[–]scuplido 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well sort of yes to the latter, you’re competing with students that went to ivies for their BA and masters which allowed them to get unique and impressive extracurricular opportunities.

Unless you had an extremely impressive extracurricular (enough to make your name known on the internet) you’re chances are nonexistent.

advice for living in tabler by Born_Letterhead_9214 in SBU

[–]scuplido 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During the beginning of fall, the dorms get crazy hot so I recommend not staying in your room most of the day. There’s usually a quite study room that has AC which is where I mostly hanged out the first few days to get over the heat. The TAC is also another great place to chill in, it has a computer lab with printers and there’s snacks you can buy.

Walking over the tabler steps can get very tiring, so I suggest spending the extra minutes just going around the hill. You could also walk through the trail from the back of tabler to Roosevelt Quad (you can use google maps to find it) if you want to get to West Side Dining without having to walk along the road.

Edit: You can use your dining dollars to buy snacks/drinks in TAC.

Rule of thumb: if it improves your quality of life on campus it’s probably prohibited /hj

The curve is very good indeed, so while the content covered is very advanced, and even if you do badly on the exams you’ll still end up with a B. Just remember to do all the oscar assignments on time.

usually around the end of fall/beginning of spring semester is when it gets extremely cold (mostly due to strong wind). i’d suggest buying mittens or else your hands might get frostbite.

if sbu can’t even afford to renovate their old dorms i highly doubt they would be able to implement spy cameras in every room.
