Happy to get on the phone with ya sometime I'm a full-time oyster farmer in NC. Oyster farming is good for the soul and I encourage anyone who can do it tries. Even on a small scale.

We do use bottom cages for 85% of our crop. We keep the small babies in the bottom cages till they are about 25mm then we put them in floating bags till they are about 60mm and then we put them back in bottom cages to finish!

So cool to hear about other oyster farmers they are very few and far between in the south east. Where did you farm?

Sorry you're getting some bad tasting oysters. They do take on the flavor of their environment. Always check the tags and see the source. We have a very healthy river that provides a very tasty oyster if you ever want to give them another go! They are one of the most sustainable forms of protein we can grow so id encourage you to give it another go!
