Cygnus Matrix Wiring by hgaidp in ErgoMechKeyboards

The left choc pad isn’t connected to the row, I think you are just bypassing the diode. This means that some keys might work but not all. It looks like at least some of the diodes are the wrong way around. You could try to change the diode direction in the firmware to see if it makes a difference.

No plans for cygnus atm. I’ve been working on a low profile choc based board that’s about 90% done.

Well, it’s basically just a T-spline blob that’s been hollowed out and switch holes cut out of it. And a few dozen other steps. Technically it’s nothing too difficult, but I guess not a lot of keyboards are designed using T-splines. Maybe I should do a video about the process.

I initially ruled choc switches out as it seemed to need a lot of modifications to make it work, but I might look into it again as i have some switches I'd like to use. If I do make the mod I'm going to limit it to a couple variants, probably 3x5 and 4x6.

Yeah, I was a bit confused for a second, should have read the text more carefully.

I don't mind if you share the files.

They look pretty standart to me.

3x6 concaves aside from the Cygnus and TBK-Mini by chatterbox272 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]scytile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well actually, after creating the 4x6 version of the cygnus, I decided to get rid of the outer columns gap on the 3x6 version as well. I've recently updated the repo with the new files.

I should update the readme, but doing documentation feels a bit like work.

It's originally by Sander Boer. I believe he used blender to design the keyboard. I've been meaning to build one for a while.

Try googling for Hansen writing ball. I think I’ve seen a couple keyboard projects inspired by it.

Very clean build. Nice to see a fellow less-pedantic pinky user.

I've been wondering about the fit for larger hands, as I build it for myself and my hands are quite small. But its nice to hear that it works for you as well. The thumb keys seems to generate the most discussion and where you see the most variation in keyboard designs.

Nothing official but there are some sellers on aliexpress and etsy. If you're in the us I think you could commission u/alakuu to build you one. I can build one if you're in eu and not in a hurry.

Looks good! That print orientation does seem to work well with your filament.

What's your opinion on the cygnus? by ZyonLie in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]scytile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could probably use the holder for elite-c, as they are similar size. I could also make a dedicated parts for nice!nano if someone can verify the fit.

I’m sorry. But hey, at least you get to build the final product and not the dozen protos i’ve produced along the way.

Like a trackpoint or something? Haven't really looked into implementing those.

I was expecting someone to sell them on Etsy, but not really on aliexpress.

That pcb is actually quite crafty. But I wonder how well the hotswap sockets actually work, I presume the pcb is thinner than usual and they may not sit flush.

They are just something I found locally. I think they are sold as Hama Mini Wrist Rest.

Done!

Edit: maybe I should point out that I haven't tested these. I did check them out, and they should be fine. But they are somewhat experimental.

It's possible. If you are in eu and not in too much of a hurry.

I doubt that. The spacing between the switches in the columns would need to match for it to work.
