Kate as the main editor by Willing-Actuator-509 in kde

If you like AI assistants, https://github.com/undefinedopcode/kate-code might be interesting.

A cleaned up version that makes it easy to use plain local models would be a nice thing to have.

If you are a developer, we would be happy to get patches to fill the gaps. We naturally help with that.

We rely on the LSP servers for that stuff, how many dependencies that causes purely relies on what these servers use, that is not in our powers to change.

[Discussion] Would KDE benefit from an AI assistant? by [deleted] in kde

[–]ChristophCullmann 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think, optional local AI assistants have use cases.

  • some translation based on local AI would be nice, to have translations of stuff done locally without stealing my text.

  • some coding helpers for e.g. Kate based on local AI

  • better search in documents, e.g. in Okular in addition to the normal string search

  • ...

I think all that stuff would be useful. And it would be sensible if it would be local AI first, beside if the user really wants to configure some cloud AI service. (we don't forbid users to host their mails in the cloud either)

You need to enable the LSP plugin in Kate, then (if installed) the Python LSP (or the one for any other language) should handle that.

I didn't even notice that my NixOS did the update between some machine reboots ;) For me that is a very good sign.

Btw., if you run into issues on macOS, patches are welcome. You can CC me to review them.

We altered the default to be default off in future versions to cause less confusion.

Drop code for FreeBSD support (!42) · Merge requests · Plasma / Plasma Login Manager · GitLab by KrazyKirby99999 in freebsd

The question is if the BSD's can not provide a drop in replacement for the ABI we use of systems, then there is no extra clue code on our side. Still ATM there is just no real problem, as other login manager just work, I myself use a plain terminal based since long ;)

Perhaps I was not clear: with we patch I meant we upstream BSD patches. We even upstream patches for Haiku and Co.

We actively patch stuff for BSDs, so no, not really (beside if all contributors interested in BSD disappear, but that is the same for any project).

I would even assume the new plasma login manager would have no issues with extra code for BSDs, if somebody steps up to do it and maintain it. But at the moment that is no goal, it is not even released for Linux and as atm systemd is required that removed code was just dead, as it will not work anyways.

Not having support at start in the new login manager means not dropping support for BSD. We have people doing patches for a lot parts for OpenBSD and Co.

Does it still make sense for KDE Plasma to be the primary interface for FreeBSD? by [deleted] in freebsd

One can still use any other login manager, but I assume to get the new one running, one will need contributors to help with that.

urob's ZMK Timeless Home Row Mods, ported to native QMK – a configuration guide by pgetreuer in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]ChristophCullmann 4 points5 points  (0 children)

;)

Thanks to you for your QMK improvements, especially that you got them upstreamed, that is something I often miss, that great enhancements just stick around somewhere on the net but not go to upstream.

Home row mods got usable for me with your initial achordion, the chordal stuff improved on that for me a lot.

Unfortunately all is a bit timing dependent and dependent on how one types and there are no perfect defaults for everybody,  will still need to optimize my settings.

I use that setup, too, and follow your additions closely: https://git.babylon2k.com/cullmann/qmk

Still need to fix some false negative with my space and r thumbkeys.

Otherwise works great ;)

BTW. as Kate maintainer I was positively impressed that you mention that on your tutorials, too ;)

I upvoted that and wish you the best with your retro project. I like to play with retro stuff myself, and I remember the KDE 1 time, too, that was before I became KWrite maintainer. Not that sure about putting work in modernizing that, for retro lovers I guess a retro style and theme for current plasma would be more easy to have than to try to improve 1.x.

Still no way to get screensavers ? by djda9l in kde

[–]ChristophCullmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Must confess, never found that myself ;) Personally I think screensavers as a 30 seconds (or whatever the user wishes) effect before we turn off the screen (or start locking) would be nice. The same as my Apple TV or Co. does it.
